Headlights - What warning light goes on?
My warning light started going on this evening and I have noticed that one of my headlights is out. I looked through the threads but did not find anything about this so I thought I would ask (so that it is documented for others):
1. When I depress the warning light reset, the warning light goes back on. I thought the reset switch resets until the next shut down / start up?
2. I also notice that there was no control panel info display lit up (like...'headlight lamp' or something like that). I suspect that indicates that the dash bulb itself for that warning indicator is out perhaps?
This is for a '79. I will go ahead and replace both headlights (recommendation from here) but I am just curious if these symptoms are consistent with a headlamp being out and perhaps if these symptoms are consistent with some other electrical malfunction.
I will reply herein with results - again for others. Always good to document oddities.
Having fun.
Thanks.

There isn't a warning for the headlights. Check the glovebox manual and verify that all the warning lights are working; it may be something else.
The central warning brain is voltage sensitive. When my original alternator was failing, it would trigger a [!] without any other lights.
Some versions of euro H4s have a 'blip' on the top of the lens, which peeks over the top of the headlight cover, and shows that the light is working.

There are two classes of warnings - Group B where the reset button will reset the warning lights, and Group A which will not. The Group A ones are oil pressure, oil level, brake fluid level, and brake pressure. The headlight may be a coincidence - I would check the oil and brake fluid before driving again.
Interesting that stop lamps and tail lamps will both trigger a group B alarm, but not headlamps. I suppose they figured that you could see that one of the headlamps wasn't working without a warning lamp.
This is all in the owners manual. If you don't have one, you can find them on Ebay. They have other useful info like fuse and relay layouts.
