Default LH ECU going? help!

1989 S4 auto with 70K miles.

Just had idle stabilizer replaced due to car starting but would not idle, just die. Tried the WD40 trick and car would start and idle for short while ( 15-25 mins), then die. After new Idle Stabilizer installed, car starts and runs but difficult to start when hot and left sitting for 10-15 minutes. Goes back to stall unless I rev engine and then it runs. Sometimnes happens from cold start also. When in for IS replacement, checked all vacumn hoses and no leaks.

Had independent porsche shop check electronics and new idle stabilizer, all works properly, no air leaks around or under intake, wiring all good from stabilizer to LH. They noted that LH does not respond to inputs from stabilizer. They think LH is going bad.

Does it sound like LH is going bad.

Have read there are two guys that repair ECU, Electronik Repair, Inc and JDSPORSCHE. Any recommendations?

Hello Bob,

You could have an LH that is going bad.

I can check your LH out and let you know if it is bad. Just send a note to me at electronikrepair@earthlink.net. I'm located in AZ so we can take car of you quickly.

Bob,

Both Rich Andrade (Electronik Repair) and John Speake (JDS Porsche) are active on this list. Both get great reviews and are very very helpful. When I needed an ECU I went with Rich on the theory that, all else appearing equal, money spent closer to home would make it back into my pocket more quickly.

Rich did an outstanding job and provided terrific support. I had the wrong software (S4 instead of GT) on my computer before his repair, and he worked with me to get the right software burned into an EPROM and installed.

Best bet is to try and do a brain swap with someone, but these days pretty cheap to get the LH repaired compared to a couple of years back.

Out of interest have you ever checked the flex plate for tension ? Presume your 89 is an auto ?

Thanks for the replys. I've contacted Rich offline and will try and get it out to him this week.

Chris, no I haven't checked the flex plate..I've had the car since 1996 when I got it with 23K on the odometer. Car has been pretty much bullit proof for the last 8 years. This is first time it's acted up. Pretty sure its the ECU causing the problems. I am aware about the flex plate/TB failure issue. Probably should crawl under and check before putting the car away for the winter.
