Default Starts then dies

My 84 928 starts then dies. It died when I was out of town and a mechanic replaced the alternator and it ran fine for the day. The 48 hours later it will not start. It turns over, catches, putters, then dies. If I touch the gas it dies right away. I have replaced the EFI relay as stated in previous posts. I can hear the fuel pump running when I turn the key as well. Any more suggestions?

It is probably starting on the fuel injected by the 9 th fuel injector , the cold start injector. You can buy a simple "noid" light which you plug to an injector plug (one of the 8 regular injectors) and crank the engine to see if the light pulses.

I purchased another EFI relay and changed it out this weekend. The car now starts and runs like new. I must have bought the wrong relay or got a bad one. Thanks for the help. Hopefully this was the only problem!
