Jason that is probably how I would have done it had I been an enforcer also. Be reasonable. It's your job, but be nice .... and look at the circumstances. Schools? Neighbourhoods? Erratic? Or are we talking desert and open road ...... Otherwise IMHO the only other option for an honourable person would be to NEVER personally speed (that isn't gonna happen) .... and to ticket every speeder, no matter what. How can you ticket someone for doing exactly what you did this morning or what you are about to do as they leave?

A ticket CAN be a learning tool, but most see it as a punishment. Some speed limits are set too low IMHO, but the limit is set by the state and local municipalities so I follow what they set forth. You can PM me and we can take this up at length.

By 2006 all cell phones will be required by law to have GPS in them, sooner or later some politican will see more revenue by it? But to do that would require cops to take the cyber finetoothed comb over your cell phone records and track your movement, the ACLU would fight it. If you manually tried to use GPS to defend yourself in which I think you could, it will just most likely back up the cops testimony.
Anyway interesting thread, next week I'll be driving a shark 1,800 miles across the country so I'm hoping I don't get busted, because I'm sure I'll hit 130+ in Texas in a few spurts testing out the new shark.

Isn't there a way to file a change of venue, to get the trial in your home area, instead of King City? That would at least do something about the judge.
I sympathise, Nicole, they got me last week.

Jessa,
Changes are usually intra county, as the county gets the $$... King City is in Monterey County. I had one of my cases moved to Salinas as the judge was a bit friendlier to my attorney's opinion..

Well, this topic has been hijacked a bit. I've got a few cents(sense?), I might as well throw in.
NICOLE
The section of hwy you were ticked on is a a notorious trap. It has been for many many years. Sorry you got tapped this time. I would suggest going to court and trying to get the ticket reduced and/or dismissed if the officer doesn't show up fo court. As for remembering what went on, an attractive woman, in a Porsche GT is pretty memorable, don't you think?

Now I do have a real problem with law enforcement. And, it's related to what others have been saying. Selectivity. Why can every Harley driver break the LAW with impunity, when even the smallest infraction from a sports car driver be enforced? If your job is motorist safety, WHO was being protected on a quiet stretch of highway, from a motorist driving over the speed limit, in a car well capable of triple digit speeds? Was it Nicole, you say? If so, then I say, no thanks to the whole system. I do not require law enforcement to guide me in protecting myself. We were founded on a system of liberty, and every minute, some legistature, or 'crat is chipping away at my liberty.
I know you are the enforcement arm, but really, do you enforce the laws that are just plain stupid? or do you enforce them selectively, depending on the color, gender of the person you are dealing with? Or perhaps depending on if they have a badge, or a firemen's card? I think we know the answer, so I won't put you on the spot.
Talk to the folds down under, and see what's going on with their highway enforement system. It's worse than 1984, it's almost to Brazil(Tuttle? Ithought you said Buttle!!)
The public highway system wasn't meant for us to go ***** nilly on. Just last week, a nimrod in a mini-truck killed a passenger in a parking lot, when he was jumping off the entry ramp. Private propery, so, no ticket? Was he a jackass, yes, but he didn't break the LAW. Point is, the passenger had the liberty to get in, and also the liberty to get back out or not get in. Aye, that's the rub with liberty, you have to choose wisely, or be guided by those with superior judgement ~ the legistators = NOT!

Doc, I'm not even going to try to change your mind. You seem very intrenched in your ideal's. But when that time comes that you may need an officer for what ever reason, I hope the officer does his or her job fairly and to the best of their ability. As I said before anyone can PM me if you want to vent.

When judges and off duty officers are speeding, they are subject to the same rules as the rest of us and they CAN get ticketed if caught.
It is the non-enforcement of laws against buddies which is the problem... which I think is pretty much a separate issue. If you are able to prove ( which you probably can't) that preferential treatment or discrimination is happening, isn't it bigger than just the ticket you are fighting, ie class action lawsuits etc?
I really do not buy the rationalization of "they do it so I'll do it".
Rules aren't much fun, are they?

Anyway, we all know who these same critics will call in a time of need and of course you will be there doing everything you can to protect them. My hats off to you.

Nearly 20 years ago, I knew a guy that sped and when highway patrol would come up quickly, he just waved and got away with it.
He had a highway patrol sticker on his bumper and just kinda "looked" like one of them.
Anyone want to break the unwritten rule of no-bumperstickers on Porsches? This is tempting, though.

I will always speed. So will you. Period.
