Paul, I don't see it that way. I KNOW that everyone speeds. Judges, police officers, the President ... we all speed. Enforcement cannot be so black-and-white. Speeding past a school, even 1mph, should IMHO be ticketed. Speeding on the highways, alone .... well, in my mind there is no harm in that.

I really don't go for this one. I've been told that many times and I do not buy it. If I sense speed being measured I NAIL NAIL NAIL the brakes and I have never failed this way. I may look fast, but when they measure they will see a slow car. The alternative is to allow them more than the time they need to put the donut down and get a reading they can use in court. No thanks.

<rant> I hope the day will come when enforcement will need to hand over a time-stamped printout generated by the monitoring equipment, along with (or part of) the ticket. Too much BS goes on between the officer and the driver, and personally, I'm never in any mood to play little games with them when pulled over. </rant>

I'm trying to retrain my well intrenched behaviour of NOT hitting the brakes when I see smokey. I used to shift down and/or pull the e-brake, but in this car, it takes too long to slow down from 'over the tonne'.

This thread makes me think about putting in a rear brake light switch and buying an SRX...

I've got a better idea. Every car has a device built in which automatically deducts funds from your bank account based upon the time and speed traveled in excess of the speed limit. Yeah, that's it. Of course *everyone* would have one, and the penalty would be based upon a percentage of your income, so it would be fair all around. Since no enforcement would be required, the funds could go toward more worthwhile causes. <...he wakes up>

Hey Heinrich,

whatever works for you
I just wish we lived in the same neck of the woods. I would follow you everywhere. You make the perfect candidate to use for shadow driving
Not only would you warn me of upcoming danger, but you would probably also take the heat.
To me, that's better than a V1

Old & New,

I wonder if 'Red UFO' would know if the new cell phones with GPS could be used as speed measurement devices...

Question Jason .... do you or do you not, ever speed?
Am I correct in understanding then, that you choose to not respect the law enforcement profession, because you believe (and rightly so) that the application of traffic tickets is inconsistant? If so, that seems rather unfair and illogical. Care to elaborate?

Glenn I choose to not respect those in law enforcement who consider themselves above the law. I choose to not comply with a system which states that the law shall be enforced, yet those enforcers themselves break those very same laws on a daily basis. Simply put: If they think it's safe for themselves to speed, I think it's safe for me to speed.

You have to choose: Enforce consistently or make value judgments. You cannot make value judgments where law enforcement officials' speeding is concerned, but enforce absolutely where regular citizens are concerned.

Hi Nicole,

That is the exact spot I got a ticket a few months ago. Let me tell you, it cost me a few dollars to get it resolved. King City is a speed trap just near 198/101.... I have a very good attorney in King City, and he knows the Judge who will fine you. If you want, PM me or call me on my cell, and I will give you his info. His rates are reasonable, and he is effective.

My ticket was for going over 100mph, and I got it reduced to the lesser charge, and no suspended license.

If the CHP wants to give you a ticket in that area, they will. The judge is very sympathetic. If your V1 fails, then you have only one option. A GOOD ATTORNEY that can negotiate properly with the Judge.

Sorry you got the ticket... It's an expense of driving the 928..... Ask me how I know.....

Paul you should drive to the NW some time and just try, try to keep up with Heinrich! Not as easy as it sounds. I have tried, sometimes I can, many other times I have failed.

Ok, so by "those in law enforcement" you are then referring to individual officers of the law, and not the profession as a whole. By extension then, you do respect the profession, just not some individuals whom are inconsistant in applying enforcement equally and consistantly. Correct?

Heinrich,
there is no tailgating involved. Shadow driving is an art and when done properly, the "tool" doesn't even know it's being used.

EXACTLY!!! I have many family members in law enforcement as well as military. They'd be a bit displeased if I dissed them .... Law Enforcement is a very very wide term Glenn ... I didn't say, nor did I intend to say, that I do not respect Law Enforcement. I do. I think my statements are really clear Glenn, it is a discussion about speed and only speed, and anyone who enforces one thing and lives another is not respectable. That is exactly what I meant.
All the best,
Heinrich

Heinrich, yes I do speed on occasion. Less than the 6 miles over, does that make me or anyone else a hypocrat? I doubt it. My job is not to pass out speeding tickets, its to protect motorists. A ticket CAN be a learning tool, but most see it as a punishment. Some speed limits are set too low IMHO, but the limit is set by the state and local municipalities so I follow what they set forth. You can PM me and we can take this up at length.
