928 odometer broke?
I have a 1984 928 forthe past year i would gently tap the pod to get the speedometer to move. Last week I pushed the trip reset (I was not moving) today i notice it hadn't move sinced i reset the trip meter last week. The Odometer doesnt work and the trip meter doesnt work. The speedometer still works with my old fashion gentle tap on the pod. I tried pushing the trip meter a few times hoping it was just stuck. Every time I did the voltmeter on the dash dropped from 13 to 10. When I released the trip reset it would return to charging at 13. I have no idea why. I really dont want to remove the pod, and replace the gears, if I dont have to. What other things should I try first or is it most likely broken dead rotted gears?

sounds very much like "broken dead rotted gears". It is really not THAT bad of a DIY.
Some really good WYAIT's...all the bulbs in the pod...the flexible PCB...clean a few ground points and the connectors...check a couple of vac lines. (PERFECT time to do it all).
You should be able to do the whole thing (including R&R the pod) in 2-3 hours.
There is a VERY good how-to with pics for the gears...it is for a 944 - but the procedure is the same! I think they may be a sponsor...I'm out of town on biz, and I have it bookmarked on the home 'puter. SOmeone here will post the link.

Thanks for the imput.... where's the best place to buy replacement gear set and do I replace all the gears? Any idea of cost? What else should I replace since I have to remove the pod? I dont want to do this very often.

There is only 1 gear that seems to break and they get plenty for .10 worth of plastics. IIRC it's north of $30 before shipping.
Obviously a good time to replace dead bulbs, change the printed circut if you're having instrument gremlins. A great time to take out the annoying upshift bulb (yellow arrow)if you have the 5 spd.
