...and if you attend a 928OC conference (like the one in Wichita this summer), you get a free membership with the event registration fee.

The event was well worth its money, so the membership was a cool added benefit. I'd be a member either way.

Like Nicole, I see a value in the 928 OC, and so became involved to make changes. There have been many changes in the past year or so, including changing all board positions to being elected by the members and use of club funds to ensure members receive benefits.

Hopefully the 928 OC will continue to grow, as it has for the past year, and be able to provide direct benefits to members, as well as supporting local 928 events.

If you have an specific questions, please email me directly.

Thank you.
Nope Stan, it was not you. The fellow I developed a dislike for has not posted here in a long time....... Any way...no rights or wrongs there, or any reflection on the OC, The guy just put me off so I stayed away....best regards Stan

Like I said, not joining was prolly a missed opportunity for me....

Alas.......the problem with first impressions................the guy is still an active member... and still a jerk............The "club" will survive quite nicely without me. Like I said, no rights or wrongs here, just personal preference.

I'm sad to hear that! Hopefully over time you will change your mind. The club needs all of us, and we all will need the club at one point or the other.

Guys: What would the 928 OC have to offer, so that you would consider joining? Do we need a separate poll for that?

I belong to so many clubs that I am letting my memberships lapse, partly because of time constraints and partly because of economic reality. I have unread professional mags. and only skim Panorama now. And here I sit on the Rennlist at 2 AM instead of studying what I need. Priorities are screwed, and another club really won't improve my situation. I also have an envelope addressed to the 928 OC to join containing a check which I never sent. This is not what I should be doing. Good night.

Wait a minute.... access to cheap parts, outrageous drives, technical information....that might keep me awake alittle longer.....hmmm.... well, like I said: time for bed, Nicole.

To be frank, I don't see that it offers a lot now. Based on the web site, there seem to be a couple of large meets a year, the odd tech session, some comparatively inactive web boards and a newsletter that hasn't been published in around 4 years.

Emanuel,

A long, but still summarized response to your comments.

The 928 OC was created quite a few years but as recently as two years ago the club was nearly static. I questioned those operating the club, about what was being done, what would be done in the future, and provided (many) suggestions.

As a result of my interest, I was asked whether I would be interested in leading the club into the future. Those who had started the club had too many other interests or distractions, so were willing to let someone with fresh energy step in.

I accepted the position as interim president after obtaining agreement with the founders to change the club in a number of ways. The most important change was that bylaws were adopted, which included the specification that the club would be operated by an elected board. This may seem trivial to some, but it ensures that the 928 OC members have a voice in the club.

The club has had two elections since that time, and memberships became annual as well. Since taking leadership of the 928 OC, the club has "done" the following:
Been a sponsor of the 2003 928 Frenzy
Been a sponsor of the 2003 Sharktoberfest
Been a sponsor of the 2004 SITM
Been a sponsor of 2004 OCIC (928 OC VP Marc White organized this event)
Will be a sponsor of 2004 928 Frenzy
We offered to be a sponsor for both 2003 & 2004 Devek Days
We offered to be a sponsor for 2004 Sharktoberfest

I also implemented a direct benefits program to members, to ensure each member benefited from membership:
Each new member receives:
A 928 OC t-shirt
A license plate frame
Two static cling window stickers
Each renewing member (from 9/28/04 on) will receive a lighted keychain (quality item ordered from Nicole Mossinger)

Two members have indicated an intent to revive the 928 Journal (possibly the newsletter you referred to), but it will strictly be an e-zine.

The website does offer a number of services, but all content must be 928 related, so the volume is low. The 928 OC also owns the contents of the 928S4VR.com website, and my business hosts that site without charge.

We do have a number of ideas that could be developed into services, but each idea requires volunteers. Until more volunteers step forward, we will make slow progress.

I certainly understand the 928 OC is not for everyone. I beleive there is a value in having a club to serve the needs of the 928 community. While it would be great if the 928 OC did much more, at least we have a start, and there has been quite a bit of progress in the past year.

How about east and west coast frenzies? Not many west coast owners are going to drive all the way to Virginia to attend the Frenzy. Maybe regional OC conventions?

I just added a subscription to 9Magazine to my list. My car had been featured on the cover last year, but I did not subscribe at the time. At the Sharktoberfest I got another copy and found the tips very helpful - worth more than the cost of the magazine. Since they do reallyl give the 928 regular coverage, I decided to spend $20 on the subscription.

Hi Shane,

I can assure you that the 928 OC would be very supportive of another 928 event, regardless of where it is.

What is first needed is someone to volunteer to help organize the event, and pick a location. If you, or someone else, is interested in organizing an event, please contact me directly so we can work out the details.

Thanks!

I can see it now .... Shane, a bunch of frozen dudes in 928's and a 3-mile looped course with full OC support and funding on Onalaska .... Stan, would that funding include the Whale Oil anti-perspirant?
