A while back I saw a series of diecast 1/87 "Classics" on clearance at Walmart. IIRC they were $1. So I bought nearly all the classic Porsche & Mercedes models that they had. Over the years I've put a tiny brass eyelet through the roof or floor, added a tiny red ribbon-loop and given them out to buddies as Christmas tree ornaments.
I think the detail and proportion of these little Chinese models rival Herpa, plus they're actually metal. I never saw a 928, so I don't know if they ever made one.
Just found this in my childhood car toy archive: Tonka Turbo Tricksters 928 S. AKA Choro Q series in Japan or Penny Racers by Takara. Really flies and does some neat tricks with the penny installed! Fun distorted look and even wearing Dunlop tires.
