Default Worst Cam Belt Ever Seen?

I sure wouldn't want to run with this cambelt!

This 928 had an engine fire and most of the belt was consumed in one area. You can see the belt construction.

Reason to carry an extinguisher in my wallet ... and to never never ignore fuel fumes .... I recently cut a tbelt ... was surprised, it had only fibres inside. Didn't see metal.....

Not surprised there is no metal. Rubber stretches much faster then steel thread and with the tension on the belt the metal will cut right thru the rubber. I would assume nylon would stretch similar to rubber. To a certain extent that is. But then again I am no rocket scientist

Gee Joe, that would be bad news for our steel belted tires .
Actually, the chemistry of bonding natural rubber mixes to steel cables is well known, although propriority. The reason braided steel cables are not the second choice in such belting is that the extreme angle changes (as the belt cycles) generates a lot of heat due to intra - cable fretting - and the elastomer mix reverts back to carbon black & stuff - and crumbles to dust ....
Kevlar, polyester, nylon are all better choices - and after an initial run-in, they flex well, but do not stretch. That's why our timing belts work as well as they do - although they don't handle fire too well .
