Momo shift **** install- automatic transmission
Last night I installed a Momo **** on my AT 86. It looks pretty sweet. The T-handle was cracked and wobbly, and although I tend not to update my cars with bling-bling, I thought a conical aluminum **** would look nicer.
I got the **** from 928 International.
The only wrinkle in the install was that the stock rubber accordion boot does not extend up high enough, and I had about 2 inches of naked skinny metal shaft showing. I had the option of putting in a leather boot, but didn't feel like spending the money, and anyways leather boots belong on manual transmission cars IMHO, not automatics. So: I ran down to Autozone and bought a foot of black 1" heater hose, cut a 3 inch piece that didn't have the white printing; slid it onto the shifter shaft, put on the Momo ****, slid the rubber hose up the shaft, done. It looks pretty nice, almost stock, uses the stock accordion boot, and gives a finished appearance. Cost: 1.00 for hose, as opposed to 85 bucks for a leather boot.
I can post pictures later if anybody is interested.
cheers

I like the look of the full leather boot. With the lights in the instrument pod indicating the gear, there's no need for the marks on the base of the shifter. I've had mine set up this way for nearly 2 years.

Dave your interior looks good updated like that.
I had an Momo club 4 w/ Porsche crest Horn button and the Silver Momo auto ****. Both where on my S-4 prior to accident...(about 6 months) they will not be going on the GTS. I am going to offer them to Andy K first when he gets here but if not I will photo them and offer them to the list. These Auto shifters are very nice

Very simple mod for this. I just did it on my 82 and the accordian boot looks pretty darn good believe it or not.
So what you need to do is take the MOMO **** back off for the time being. Take the old "T" handle and cut/saw off the base that holds the boot up. You will be left with a ring with 2 screws in it. (if the later auto shifters are like the early ones) Then slip the ring over the shifter and slide it way down. Put your MOMO ring back on and slide it down. Set your ****, srew up the MOMO ring and then slide up the old "T" ring and screw into place. Pull the boot up over the ring and there you have it.
I had to trim my shifter to get the **** button to push the shifter rod down. It all fits perfect.

Here it is... I have to say, it doesn't look as good in the flash-illumined picture as it does in real life... in the picture you can see the knobbliness of the hose, but in daylight you can't.
cheers

I also have the MOMO Auto Shifter. I retained the factory boot, and went to the hardware store, bought two 50 Cent plastic washers that screw onto the shaft to keep the boot up to the bottom of the shifter, and presto, factory look without much ado.... 1+year since install, and no worries yet...

MOMO setup is available at Vertex, not sure about other sources.
What other aftermarket setups are out there, in addition to Jaeger/Nicole offerings and re-covers?
