Default Quick Torquing question

Of course you see torque specs for about every nut and bolt on a vehicle. In most cases are they meaning that the nut/bolt should be torqued at the number specified or at least the number (ftlb) specified?

Torque to the spec, do not exceed the spec.

Joe,

The torque value given is what you tighten to. Any higher, there is the risk of stripping threads, stretching or snapping of fasteners. I'm sure there is some room to go over or under, since very few torque wrenches are 100% accurate. I always try to hit the number right on to avoid any problems whenever possible.
