Drew...I might be able to talk Scott Turnbull into this escapade, but my car is no go for this weekend. I'd go just for the experience. I'll let you know.

Please DO - I was looking for Scotts email address but I erased it.

If you will, please mention to him that the DO is a formality and once completed, and after I certifiy him (LOL), he can go into the green (my group) or the Blue (Race) group - For 75.00 this is a bargain - Also, you can take the class in ANY car of your preference. This way you can get your membership and SAVE 100.00 on the DO Class. For future events.

Also, as far as I know - Andrade will be there with his track shark as well -

The More the Merrier!

He's on the Rennlist e-mail service, you can get to him like that. It's how I got him last night. I tried the standard method (phone) but no luck yet. He's a busy guy, but hopefully you can get something going.

I'm not gonna make it this weekend Drew, as much as I would like to. Keep us posted on upcoming events though, I'm really psyched about getting this going. I even went so far as to bookmark the pro-auto website.

Incidently, since it's open to all sports car driver types, I'll pitch this to the Marines here in our ad hoc car club (the Semper Fi Auto Squad), there's a few who woul dbe interested I'm sure.

I'm a native from Phoenix. I still think 100F is TOO HOT for a track day. It wasn't bad in the shade but it was hot to stand out in the sun and wait at the grid (why do they call for grid SO EARLY?). Keeping yourself hydrated is very important at these temps.

I'm also not a big fan of the Firebird West track. It is a strange configuarion (below ground level), not very long and has a lot of very tight turns. The main and east tracks are a lot better IMHO. Though, I can't complain about the price, the event was NO CHARGE to members.

We had over thirty cars in the advance street car group ALONE.

It was too hot. I started suffering from dehydration the second session into the day - besides that Old Blue was running rather warm herself. Although I did not have to put water or oil into her - I had a nice "Film" of crap on top of the rear bumper cover. The warm start issue has me concerned a bit but thats for another day. Started up this morning no problem and I took her back to storage.

So I gotta ask, how'd the racing go for you Drew...Rich?

I got about 70% of the interior strip done last night, I had no idea there was so much aggravating wiring connected to the center console.

Unfortunately, Rich didnt make it.

I had two good sessions which equalled to an hour of open track time. It was really packed for both the Red and the Green Groups. With the number of cars in excess of 30 for each group, PROAUTO forced two individual sessions for each group, at fifteen minutes a piece.

My stock street tires - SUCK - I was drifting way too much for this short course. I went off two different times in the same corner! The second time, I had a passsenger, my friends 13yr nephew. All he said was ........Cool.

I was quite pleased with the acceleration. On the back straight I had some good speed, from the corners too. No brake fade what so ever. All in all a great afternoon.

BTW -The DO class was full. Everyone taking advantage of that 75.00 promo deal. Almost too many cars on the track IMO. (1.1Miles)

Next Time.

Drew, I did make the afternoon session. They combined the green groups and it was pretty busy. This was my test session to confirm the fuel distributor problem. It was my first session on the west track. Too many tight corners for my taste and way too warm. as soon as I started loosing power I decided to exit the track.

My next project is to rebuild the CIS K-Jet fuel distributor. Since I've checked everything out I'm looking forward to smooth sailing after this fix.

Either of you should be equally qualified to answer this question for me. When setting up my car for 'basic' track work, what make/model of wheel should I be looking at? I'd like to go with an 18" lightwieght and get as much tread in front and back as possible. Since both of your cars have similar limitations (offset, geometry) what has been your experience? What would you recommend?

Ideally, I'd like to get 8.5-9" wide in the front and 11" in the back. I plan to roll the rear fender, and the front if needs be. I'd like to go at least 235 in the front and 285 in the back. Is this reasonable, can I get more? I really dont' want to buy more than one set of wheels in the next few years.

Im in the same boat. I'm running stock phone dials with 225/50/16's on the car. IMHO - I think running eighteens is a bit much for the track - Id go with 17".

Although, I did find some wheels at 928 Specialist - Kinesis K28 Forged Wheels w/18x9.5 front, 18x11rear.

http://928gt.com/

On the left part of the screen click on performance products. If you scroll down to the wheels, there is a track car with a set of Kinesis.

Glad I didn't go, too hot. I'm sick of the heat and ready for the 70s or 80s if we can get it.

The max rear tire size without rolling the fenders is 275 mm. I'm running 9" wheels with 275/40 17s in the rear and 8" wheels with 235/40 17s in the front. Many go up to 315 width in the rear with rolled fenders.

It doesn't hurt to run on skinnier tires and get to know the car, the track, and improve your skill before going to wider tires and/or slicks. The faster you go the more trouble you can get into!
