Anyone got the skinny on these?
http://www.wheelenhancement.com/enkeiRC5.htm
I hear they're about as light as they come. I'm looking for some flat out racing wheels 17" or larger for the '81, and these seem to fit the bill. I'm thinking 8.5x18 front and 10x18 rears with Dunlop SP Super Sport tires (hard to beat for $125 per) 245-255 front and 285 rears.
Any other suggestions? Anyone got something for sale that's about as good?

Doesn't sound like they come in the correct offsets for a 928. If you don't mind the tire sticking out a bit, you may be able to run 225s up front. BUT, if you are going racing that's probably no good... not to mention the geometry.
Unfortunately there are no inexpensive options. You'll have to find 928 offset wheels... I got my Fikse used from a list member after buying C4 rims that did not fit.
Regards,
Bill

Man, I wanted those Fikse FM 10's, you got them within minutes after he posted. And if I recall correctly for under 25 hundred. What a steal. Oh well, you snooze you lose

Looks like the RC5 is a no-go based on the calculations I've got.
The 8.5" width has a 54mm offset and the 10" has a 60mm offset. I guess the rears would be alright, but the fronts would extend past the fender a bit much. I'm not real savvy on the geometry calculations, but from what I gather, anything under 55mm of offset in the front is asking for trouble.

Hello Tim,
The Enkei RC5 wheels will not work on your car (pre 87). The front tires will probably hit the fender. They work fine on 87 and up. I was able to fit 245s on the front and 285s on the rear without any clearance issues, but my car is an 89. The car handles much better than it did with the stock wheels.
Get offsets that fit your car and you will be happy.

Thanks for chiming in Pappy. That really bums me out, I was hoping I'd hit paydirt with those. If you don't mind me asking, what did that set run you (sans Tires)? They look excellent on your car by the way.
Does anyone know what wheels will work without going the custom three-piece ($$$) route? I'd like to get a bit more meat in the front and a lot more in the back.

I got very lucky. The wheels with new tires mounted came off a display car and I payed $2000.00 total (RC5 set with Michelin Pilot Sport Ribs). I knew that +54 mm front offsets and +60 mm rear offsets would work after test fitting other wheels and then driving the car.
BBS has a set of wheels that will fit your car. Your steering geometry is different than mine (see the land o sharks attachment in my previous post). The offsets for the 18" RE BBS wheels are +56 mm front and +65mm rear. This will allow you to run 235/35-18s or 235/40-18s up front and 285/30-18s in back. Even larger front tires will require careful selection and possible fender lip rolling.
One more thing to consider is that for about $700.00 more you could get Kinesis wheels with the right offsets. The BBS wheels are ~ $500.00 each new.
