Bolt pattern adapter?
I was looking up some wheels for my A4, and noticed that for the cup3 replica wheels, I can get them for the A4 at $169 for 19x8.5, and for the 18x8.5 is nearly a $100 more from what I remember. Thought that was very interesting... Porsche premium? I think so....
To the point now.
Some wheels that are offered for different cars (Audi in this case) would look killer on a 928. What about using a 25mm adapter that would allow the use of Audi wheels? What offset would be required front and rear for them to fit, min. and max.?
Heres an example of one of the wheels I like (on a black 928)
P.S.
Those wheels in 18x7.5 are only $125 a pop

Forget about such severe mods, just get the correct offsets, and make sure the wheels are hub centric, and bolt pattern is correct. Save your $$, and keep watching the classifieds, or EBAY etc. You will get lucky.. Better than buying cheapo wheels that may not carry the weight of a shark. I got a deal on my 18 inch Carrera Lightweight Wheels by being patient. I have also seen several sets of Kinesis, BBS, Speedline etc, with proper offsets going for 1200-1500 a set vs 3-4k new...
Just my 2 cents,

Well, I'm not that patient, and no one makes these wheels for the 928 . Those wheels will definately hold the weight of the 928 however.
I'm disappointed with the wheel selection for the 928, and abhor the disgusting prices we pay for some of the wheels. I have hollow spokes on mine and got a great deal, but for my next 928, I'd like to be a little more creative.
This could really open up a lot of wheels for us, but I'm just not good enough with offsets and whatnot to know if they'd fit. I appreciate your $.02 of course, but does anyone know if it could work and what offsets would be required?

Offset Front 60mm Rear 60mm +/- 1mm for 18x9.5F 18x10R on S4 with no spacer. H&R makes adapters for Audi - Porsche, and they are not cheap. Key will be if the wheels are hub centric, if not you will have LOTS of VIBRATION..!
If you have to try, go ahead, I am sure H&R will give you the spacer to convert the Audi to Porsche spec. However, you have to keep in mind that you can only make an offset more positive, ET will go from existing number of the wheel, to a LOWER number by the amount of the spacer...!!
Now, being that 928's have some of the highest negative offset on a production car, I doubt that you will be able to do this. I know it's frustrating, but many of us have already tried. In addition, if you use the wrong offset on the front, you will screw up the steering geometry, and decrease tha stability of the car.
With this all said, if you just care about the looks, then, not an issue. However, I drive my S4 at high speed, and care about the functionality very much....
Either way, it's your car, and you are free to do as you wish with it. I am not being negative, and rather encourage experimentation for the betterment of the community. Just that many a 928 has been ruined by the wrong mods, and the car then gets a bad name instead of the person who ruined the thing.
Performance Products in Ca. is an H&R Distributor, and D&W in Germany has all the Audi-Porsche converter spacers as well...
Good Luck.

If you have an 8 inch wide rim and the mounting face where it bolts to the hub is at 4 inches in the middle you have a zero offset wheel . The 928 wheel must have more of the rim in than out so the mounting face is typically 60-65 MM off of the center so 2 to 2 1/2 inches toward the outside of the wheel ! Very few cars use that much offset. To use a bolt pattern adapter as you mention 25 mm that means the offset would have to be even MORE to have room for the adapter yet keep most of the rim in. I doubt you will find any wheels with that much offset and such adapters often cost about $100 each.

PS.. The pic you posted looks like a takeoff of a BBS LM (Google it for a pic) with painted centers, and the BBS can be found on EBAY, or you can get a set from 928 Specialists in NC, for the same price as Tire Rack...
