Two weekends ago the owner of a very nice 996 walked up to my friend and I, looked over the two 928's and said: "I miss my 928, never should have traded it in on my 996".
The 928 IS definitly the better deal no question. A friend of mine bought a 78 911 sc not much
room and very ocward for me. He also bought a 84 euro 911 carrera very beautiful but at $20K
IT better be. The 928 just seems like (is) much more car for the money. They have just as
many probs as we do. It actually changed my mind on the 911, nice car but not for me.

Reason: misspelled word
Andy while not many people are as enthusiastic about the 928 as I am, we are talking about a trade of a 1984 928 for a 996 or 993. The values just don't match.
Another friend of mine just sold his 97 993, I think if memory serves he got in the high fifties.
It was a beautiful car black wide body.Ya Redidrum you would be looking at a mid 70's ish early
80's. I think there are few 911 owners that would also like the 928 enough to trade. Not to say it couldnt happen it may take a while. Drive that era 911 first before considering a swap. Dont be
mistaken I do like and appretiate the 911. In fact all my friends have 911's
It will certainly become more interesting for 928 owners if Porsche builds that 928 concept with the 500 hp turbo Cayenne motor.. As Tuners are easily getting 600hp+ out of it..
Wonder what the 911 guys will say then..? Now don't get me wrong, as another of my admirable cars is the 993, actually, technically speaking, it's a RUF Turbo R based on the 993TT.. (Ruf is considered a manufacturer, not a tuner in Germany).
Or, the community could just build a 700RWHP Street Monster that ate 996's for Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner, and then they might just give it up....
Painful.. these so called 911 vs 928 "debates". After reading the thread I'd say the 911 owners responding to your, pardon me saying so, naive question were very polite and friendly.
I interpretted M Danger's "you suck" comment in reference to your saying that you are going to "leap in the right direction"...I think HE took offense that the 911 (or variants) thing was the RIGHT direction, and HE did not have a 911...and that HE leapt in the wrong direction.
I agree with Piet...these "debates" are kind of painful and misguided...save them for the Ford/Chevy thing...oh great, now I'm going to hear from Ford/Chevy guys on the board....
Porsche could not put competitive horsepower in the 928 chasis or it may have displaced the '911' as Porsche's racecar. They currently down power the 986 for the same reason. I don't see them putting 500hp in a 928 replacement. If they want to market another car as a race platform, they will push Carrera GT.
