Silicone caulking the intake boots ?? 85-86
I took apart my intake last year (to get to the darn spark plugs thanks to mooshed motor mounts) and noticed some kind of rubbery silicone type of stuff on the inside of the intake boots. I'm beginning the process of replacing the boots and was wondering if anyone has ever used a thin bead of clear silicone caulk to help seal the boots air tight??? It seems like a good idea..........

If you are referring to the many 2" and few 3" diameter rubber connectors that join the intake air- plumbing together and are fastened with the hose-clamps............
A better material is available and not at greater expense!! Seek out the turbo-charger outlets online. They can provide you with silicone tubing for the couplers. It's not that expensive. The material is far more pliable, and it seals better. Plus, it comes in many colors.

I did. They worked out great! The only tricky part was shaving one of the 3" tubes as it comes a bit too long for it's place. Careful marking a cutting with a SHARP blade came out very well!
