Default Oil plenum leakage questions

Does anyone know what lines or seals are under the intake to cause leakage of oil underneath the intake manifold in that valley below? I have noticed some oil underneath my plenum but yet no severe oil loss. I do have an oil luck that appears to be coming from the drivers side rear part of the engine. I'm completely oblivious as to what it could be.

It is likely your oil filler. It has a silly little seal, and it leaks as you fill it. To replace it, you either pull intake or pull the thermostat housing unit (good idea cause it usually leaks coolant there anyway).

On my 87, the oil leak was caused by a broken front breather hose located on the passenger side. I was able to replace the hose, knock sensors, and clean the "V" by removing the water manifold. Once the water manifold is removed, you can then remove the oil filler tube (or what ever it's called).

Be careful when digging under the manifold...there are lots of hoses / tubes and you don't want to pull one out accidently.

Removal of the water manifold proceedure can found the proceedure at John Pirtle's site:

see the "service Proceedures" / "Cooling System" section.

I hope this helps...good luck

Roger,
Thats exactly right.....but you don't have to remove the manifold....IF you are crafty enough...
The breather tube runs from the passenger side valve cover to the oil filler tube under the fuel rail and is usually rotted. Easy check... remove the air intake tube and squeeze the rubber line...it's probly brittle and falls apart in your hand.

Fix...
First, remove the original bits and clamp from the oil filler tube using a long screwdriver and finesse.( you will have to remove 2 radiator hoses @ the thermostat housing IIRC) Replace the hose clamp on the filler tube- loose. Find a sutable replacement hose and fish it through the same route that the origonal came out of. But before you fish it through.... apply some vasaline to the inside of the hose you are going to attach to the oil filler tube. Slowly push and finesse the hose over the filler tube (much easier using vasaline) and tighten the clamp. Replace the water pump hoses you removed and fill er up. Your done and no more leaky. You should use a engine cleaner and some water to flush the residule oil from the valley as that will evaporate much quicker.
