Default Incredible value of the Porsche 928

$10,000 Initial price of a 1985 Porsche 928
$ 6,500 Total price of a brand new complete supercharger system
400 rwhp The resulting power to the wheels (bear in mind, engine horsepower is in the area of 460 if drivetrain losses are calculated out). And what's more, that horsepower and torque is almost that high right from the moment the gas pedal is pushed.

Can there be any greater value for money on a sportcar, anywhere????

What were Porsche thinking by not taking the extra small step and adding a supercharger or turbo to their already-magnificent engine and magnificent car????? If the car was worth $50,000 new, what would it have been worth new, with this much additional power? Wouldn't this childishly-easy upgrade have DESTROYED anyone and everyone's efforts for years to come, such as Ferrari, GM, Lamborghini, Chrysler, Bugatti, McLaren, you-name-it?

We are seeing developments of this wonderful car such as have never been experienced by mankind. Bolt it on and go. Wow.

Could you imagine the price of that car if Porsche did that, it would be $15000 more when it was
new. Plus I think wear and tear on that would be bad. It is hard to find a good example of 928's
now let alone heavily moded. I'm glad that they didn't. The 928 was giving its compitition a very bad
time without the SC. It would have been a demon thou.

Heinrich,
I couldn't agree more. You can hardly build a 500Hp engine for half of what Shane has invested let alone have it in a supercar chassis for anything near the full price. Although 400rwhp roughly equal 500chp in an automatic car. 400/.80=500.

Mike,
I am glad to see you got rid of the orange plane that was your avatar. I was a bit disappointed with it.

If Porsche would have boosted it then it would have been Much faster than the 911 Turbo and we all know the VP's would not have let that happen. Kind of like GM keeping the Vette fasterand posting more HP than the Z28.
