Default Mobil Delvac 1300 Super 15w40

Hi all,

Found some of this oil (Mobil Delvac 1300 Super 15w40) at a local Flying J truck stop. Came in gallon sizes and got three gallons for $24..not bad..but wondering if this stuff is useable in the 928?..
Doesnt say synthetic.....has an API service Cl-4, CH-4/SL on there. Also says Cl-4, CH-4, CG-4, CF-4, CF/SL, SJ .

Should I save this for the 850 Turbobrick..and go get some Redline 20-50 or Castrol TWS 10-60.....or can I run this in my GT at our semi-annual track attack coming up next weekend?..

Thanks in advance...
Tom

Oil pressure sounds normal, Delvac oil is for diesels. if your running 20-50 weight and your not happy with your oil pressure now, the 15-40 will be worse.

Hi Tom,
Delvac 1300 Super 15w-40 is an excellent "mixed fleet" Heavy Duty Engine Oil (HDEO) and if the viscosity is correct for your ambient (Porsche recommend 10-100>F) it will work very well in your car in normal use. It is a new formulation CI-4/SL mineral oil with a HTHS viscosity of 3.7>cSt and so it exceeds Porsche's minimum HTHS of 3.5cST

It is an extremely durable oil and survives for 40k km oil change intervals in heavy turbocharged diesels running up to 30psi boost and with average oil temperatures around 110c. I have one 500hp OTR truck on this lubricant at present and run in all new engines on it before converting to Delvac 1 5w-40 synthetic

Personally I believe that if you intend to use full revs/load during tracking in a 928 you should use a synthetic oil with a HTHS of 4>cSt

Your oil pressure is normal and this link may be of interest to you;
