Default EPA/DOT Sticker

The other post entitled "My Euro 928 Story" got me a little spooked when the EPA/DOT sticker issue came up. What does this sticker look like? I believe the my car doesn't have one, it has a black plate on the driver's side door jamb stating weights, tire pressure and such. It has obviously been stated that it would be impossible to pass inspection in CA without one, what about IL? I got a letter inviting me for emissions testing, but since my engine is apart, I opted to test later, say Feb 05. What does this sticker look like, (any pics) and exactly where should one look for it? It would suck for me to finish everything I plan and then have to drop another grand reinstalling the air pump and cats since I am deleting my pump and the car came catless. I am confident that the car properly tuned car pass emissions; if not, I'll be forced to register as a classic vehicle (25yrs+ in IL), which I believe results in restricted use.

after spending much time over the last year or so discussing this and many other issues with DOT/EPA and others, this is what I've learned:
after 23 years the vehicle is EPA exempt from aftermarket controls, ie cat, smog pump
"theoretically" if you pass your state/local emission test you are ok
HOWEVER.. several states, notably Ca, have much stricter standards and hence require visual inspection
I was able to pass emission level in NC (Wake county, tough but not the worst I've seen) by adding a smog pump, properly tuning the car to spec
early Euros generally have 2 stickers in the door jamb, one from Porsche, and another from the RI who did the conversion... due to poor records many jurisdictions don't honor these
I would check your local dmv office for standards
hope this was helpful
