I am SO envious- at least yours has had some maintenance... (I've got the oar on the other side of the boat we're in- working to get it all done for SITM!)

I just discovered that I do not have a bridge, but a custom built wire with ring terminals at each end.

I am confused as to what exactly the bridge is supposed to do, other than provide a path to ground. Am I running a risk of catastrophic failure by leaving the wire in place?
You're right, it just closes the circuit to ground. You have an updated version of the copper spring tab that was originally in there and was poorly suited for this application. You're much better off IMO.

That's a first on this project, hearing that the part is good. TB/Wp has become 4 gears, 2 seals, lower idler refurb and somehow getting coolant out of the oil pan. I love it.

Now, why in the heck did Porsche use such an obviously purposeful part in teh original copper bridge? I kept think it must be important in some way I wasn't understanding because somebody went to some trouble to design and build that part. What gives? Why use that where a wire would work?
