Should I dump mine now before sinking any more cash into it? If these guys are giving the 1984 models away for 4 to 5K, Why in the hell would I want to spend any more cash on mine at this time? Also, I saw where Jim Bailey said on another one that that is the market. Blue Book shows much higher and my car is immaculate. Perhaps I should move towards a 911 and get away from the Timing Belt Heart Attack that I may be having!!! Does anyone have the exact horsepower rating of mine? hate ton see people give these cars away. I paid $7600 for it and now I feel like an idiot. I do love he car.

Sorry to make you feel bad. If you love the car definitely do keep it! Make no mistake, 928s are great cars; it's just that at this moment in time, my circumstances dictate that I sell mine. And I'm not one of those unrealistic sellers attached to their cars; when it's time to move it, I'll move it at market value. Even at 7600, where else can you get this kind of performance from a prestigious carmaker such as Porsche? BTW, I think your car (and mine) has 234 hp in US trim.

Redidrum ...what I said was ,that was the market at that point in time. If in a open public auction observed by many people something sells for a certain price that was the "market value". If your 928 is an 84 USA 16 valve it should not bend any valves . It is rated at 242 hp and should run 140 mph plus. The 928 is not a 911 it never was it never will be , depending on one's point of view that is either a very, very good thing or a bad thing. What you paid for your 928 does not buy much of a 911 at all and restoring /rebuilding a 911 can be very expensive (my 1968 has a 10k plus engine). Owning and driving a 928 has to make you smile , feel good because there is no logical, rational reason to own one . You might just try driving the 1992 Forerunner Saturday night when you pick up the Female Unit for a night on the town ..........odds are she will think the honeymoon is over since you did not drive the "GOOD CAR" .(BTDT) Besides do not take my comments too seriously ,few do !

John,
I can undersatnd how expensive it is living in Orange County. I used to live in Huntington Beach. I wouldn't be able to afford a Shark and daily driver 4runner as I have here in Indy. I make more money here and have less expenses. Have a huge garage too. Sure feels like I have a lot more than 234 horsepower in the 1984 Auto 928s.
Thanks,
Ron

Jim,
The Female Unit really likes the 4Runner! It has options to party in the back. I met her the same day I bought the shark. She and everyone else that has seen it, just love the styling. I just hoped that I didn't buy a Lemon year! So far, So good and I won't take your comments too seriously. I'm an old Orange County Huntington Beach guy until 6 years ago. Is the 1984 the worst year out there for some reason?
Thanks,
Ron

Yeah, I do think prices on the good OBs seen to be dropping.
When I looked for mine, the $5K examples were the ones with significant problems.
If you wanted a good one, it was closer to 8K, perfect ones around $10K.
It seems prices have dropped.

Do I worry about what I can sell it for today? Nope, 'cause its not for sale. Why? I don't know what price to put on the amount of pleasure I have received, and continue to receive, from it, driving it every day, meeting new and interesting people, doing DE's, autocrosses, tours, and the occasional tinkering. Oh, and let's not think about the accident or two I avoided, that would probably have happened had I been driving a vehicle of lesser capabilities. If I could put a price on it, it would certainly be a great deal more than what the "market " would pay. But who cares? Like I said....its not sale...its not for sale....
