noob question
was there a year that had the new body style(smooth tail lights nose..ect) but still had the non interferiance 16 valve??,,my dream would be the newer body with a tb break worry free 16 valve,,,was there such a year? or did the 32 valve appear with the new body style???,james
Two Nos above. The 32 V started BEFORE the body change ('S3'), and there are sheet metal changes at the rear to take the S4 rear cover, and maybe also the front. Can be done, but its not a trivial change.

hello...
I believe the 32V was introduced in 85. The 87 engine is also a 32V but looks very different from the 85-6 models.
The "newer" body style first appeared on the 87 S4. Porsche used the same front nose on the S4, CS, CT & GTS. Porsche used the same rear on the S4, CS & GT but changed it on the GTS (has the reflective stripe). In addition to the "ends" of the car, Porsche also added a lower side molding (sort of like a lower panel) on the 87+ cars.
As far as the metal, 87+ cars are different from the earlier models. It will be very difficult to fit pre 87 cars with 87+ stock PORSCHE parts (some metal cutting will needed).
There are some rather nice kits which update the older cars to the look of the newer 87+ models. They're usually made of fiberglass and some include all of the updated lights and hardware. I don't have any of the links right now (at work)...but I'll post the ones I have a bit later.
Hope this helps...
