Get the lighter power steering puimp from the '91 and later models, exchange steering rack for matching part, and have more power assist as an added bonus.

In addition to the growing list I have deleted the following:
Diagpram Valve & Charcoal cannister
Fan Belt & Fan changed for a 2800 CFM electric
Air Pump
Rubber Seal at back of hood
AC Compressor, Condensor & Dryer
Aluminized single exhaust (wrapped with header tape)
Removed Exhaust Shields
Spare tire Jack & Tools
Cassette Holder
Front Auxillary Fan (StocK)
Rear Sun Visors
Sound Diverter Switches & wiring
Console Clock
Carpet & Pads
Rear wiper motor
Rear hatch release motor
Wood cover over CEP (replaced with plastic)
Rear seat backs
Rear Glove Box
Momo steering wheel vs stock wheel
Momo race seats
Rear seat bottoms (fitted them with velcro to reinstall after Autcross & DE)
Sound deadening material
Forgeline Wheels
Hoosier Race Tires (Aprox. 3 pounds per tire lighter than stock tire)
I am running a dry cell battery which weighs 16 pounds.
(My regular Optima weighs 38 pounds)
Light weight gear reduction starter (6 pounds lighter than stock)
Cruise Control Brain, servo and vacum canister
Intensive wash system, Regular wash system
Underhood light
Stock Amps
Dash storage undertrays
cross drilled rotors
You may not think it, but my car still looks stock when I take out my 16 pound momo seats and put the stock seats carpet and mats back in.
I am currently at 3000 pounds even.
Last weekend I ran a Porsche Autocross in Cincinnati Ohio and won the class I have been undefeated in for the past 3 years (I-3) by over 3 seconds and set fastest time of the day. Classes above me include I-4 and M1 through M-4. So a pretty good diet on the old 85 928 certainly helped.
Lots of fun and pretty light weight vehicle without crossing the final threshold to a pure track car.
Regards,
Ken

The battery I am running is from Racer Parts Wholesale (1-800-397-7815).
www.racerpartswholesale.com
It is an Odyssey drycell Battery Part Number PC680MJT $142.00. Weigth 15.4 pounds. You will need to build a new battery holder and also lengthen the negative cable. This is not suitable for daily use. I keep a battery tender on mine until the night before an event and have had no issues, including multiple hot restarts during autocross events, but there is not enough reserve for use with accessories. This battery is only rated at 16 Amp Hours and 680 pulse cranking amps.
The starter I secured from 928 International. I don't have a part number or price handy, but it is the same one Mark has been running on his car for the last few seasons. Jim or Tom can probably hook you up if Mark isn't around. I have been using the starter from over a year with no problems and think it is probably OK for regular street use.
Let me know if I can be of any further help.

Vlocity listed/what I'm inspired to do:
Rubber seal at back of hood
Already did this previously, gives cool air to open airbox too!
One caveat if no AC, after stopping while driving in rain, instant fogged windows from engine compartment steam!
Aluminized single exhaust (wrapped with header tape)
Need to wrap front section.
Wood cover over fuse panel (replaced with plastic)
Need to do this.
Rear seat bottoms (fitted them with velcro to reinstall after Autcross & DE)
Velcro is a great idea, will try this.
cross drilled rotors
Am going to do, rear only.
More:
Single horn
Power antenna (remove or replace with manual)
Radiator fan shrouds if converted to electric
Engine hoist mounts
16V engine badge
16V timing belt covers
L-Jet cold start system
A/C pulley on crankshaft
Fuel pump cover
Rear seat belts
GTS mirrors
It's getting heavier as I make it better fitting, but this should save over 20lbs when I/someone perfects an acrylic sunroof panel:
click pic for thread: Lightweight acrylic sunroof panel on it's way
Weight of complete sunroof mechanism, ie. all parts not welded to car = 32lbs+!

Drifting
recaro pole position seats work well, very comfortable and they work on stock sliders with a kit from a local porsche trimmimg specialist here in the uk - southbound. saves loads of weight even over the optional sports seats. remove the rear seats and put in some light weight carpet - you wont even notice they are gone visualy but the weight savings are significant.
