Default 924/944/968 transaxle swap?

Just under curiosity, can a transaxle from a 924/944/968 go in a 928? Why or why not. If not can it be made to fit with minor modifications?

Not a minor modification. And not suited to 928 specs, either. The similarity pretty much ends at the mounting orientation. The 924/944 transaxles are more Audi/VW like in design and manufacture (the early cars actually having been built in an Audi plant ... late 944 and the 968 built at Porsche Zuffenhausen). Not that it's a bad thing, it's just not the right thing for the 928. In fact, the 944 auto boxes were basically the same ZF box as used in Audi and VW applications for years and years and the manual box in some years was manufactured in a VW plant. Which all goes back to the lineage of that lineup starting with the 924.

I'm not as familiar with the Getrag 6 speed in the 968. I'm guessing the Auto/Tiptronic is similar to Audis of that vintage.

Anyway, I diverge.

you could put one in the back, put you'd need to put something under it so you're rear carpet didn't get greasy...and you probably would have to tie the hatch down...
