Best: Taking delivery one year ago yesterday. Getting to 125 on the back straight at VIR. The people who here on Rennlist.

Worst: Bambi hit the car, but I was only doing 35mph. Only a headlight was busted. Bad fuel pump relay caused stalling and hard starting until diagnosed and I replaced the relay. A/C glitches traced to bad relay in the head unit (replaced that one myself) and bad A/C compressor connector fixed by very good mechanic last week. So really, nothing on the order of some of these posts.

Best: Driving between Santa Cruz and San Diego in record time on the "lesser roads" (twisties and hills oh my!). The support from this gang.

Worst: Have to agree with the others - the major repair bills this beast induces sometimes.

May the BWAAAAH be with you.

Best, having completed all the mods I have done to this car, and it still runs........remarkably well....

Worst, got taged in the right rear quarter panel, just enough to bend some sheet metal. I was in withdrawal BAD, until I got my car back.....

Best- all of the cool 928ers I have met over the years.

Worst- Having a TB failure on the way to deliver the car to a new owner.

Default Worst thing

Funny how these "worst things" just pop up. Just last night I was going to remove the wheels from my car and, to make a long story short, one of my lug nuts stripped to the point that I can't get a socket on it. I guess one of the PO's uses an air gun in it. Now I have a completely round lug nut that is on VERY tight. I am going to have to somehow cut the lug nut off the stud.

ANY SUGGESTIONS???????????????????????????????????????????

Best ... no major repairs needed in almost 5 years. Or is it the 140mph I can do and often do. Or maybe the several hundred cars that have tried to outrun the 928 and failed. Or perhaps the look I give her as I park and walk away. Or the wonderful howl as she climbs in revs, or the 0-60 at 5.9sec I recently tested, or the many many leather pieces all over my interior, or the 929RR guy saying "Dude you were right there, I looked up at 120 and you were there in my mirror, I'm not used to seeing anyone there" ... Maybe it's my little girl saying "Pappa, I love this Porsche!!". Nah .... the best about the 928 is that it has become part of my family.
Worst... black ice, and me, and a 928 going backwards. Someone was watching out for me.

Jersey Joe,
Take an old socket you don't care about that just won't quite go on the lug and pound it on with a BFH (big friggin hammer) and then you can get the lug off and use a drift to pound the lug out of the socket. I got this from a guy at America's tire when the same thing happend to a 944 I use to have. Works like a charm. A good tire shop has special sockets for this very thing and can get it off for you as well.

Default lug nuts

I tried this. I pounded an 18 mm socket on and it just spun. Currently I am in the process of heating the alum and attempting to cut the nut, or whats left of it, in half. I hope not to kill the stud, but at this point I don't think it will survive.

Joe, do you have metric sockets? the next smaller size down in a metric sometimes works. Try a 19mm socket or an 18......you may have to tap it on as goliver suggests....

Try a 12 point in SAE. Forget what size. You really have to pound it on pretty hard. If no go, America's Tire or any big chain store will have the sockets that cut into the lug and can get it off for you.

Jersey Joe, most tire shops have a special socket with "teeth" designed to be pounded on and then used to remove the recalcitrant nut. $5 and one of these saves you a lot of hassle-

Worst: Watching my former shop turn my engine over with the timing belt off.

Best: Installing mods and breaking below 4.6s from 0 to 60 MPH (With the new TC expecting 0-60 in 4.3s).

Hey pappy, do you have any larger pics of your car? I'd like to see the color and the wing a bit closer.

Best....well thats a long list maybe a fellow PCA'er at DE commenting on how fast my car was and how cool it sounded on the track. He was driving a 996 TT.

Worst...Just last week. Passed an older couple in a pick-up. They figured I was going too fast.....is 110 too fast??? Anyway, they called 911 on me. I was clocked by radar 6 times over the next 50 miles and finally stopped withing a couple miles of home. No ticket, they never clocked me over the limit (praise be to the Valetine One ). So I got the last laugh I guess. Those old folks should know to stay in the right lane on deserted high desert roads. A guy has to have a place to exercise the 928.

Default Rounded off lug nut

Well I tried the smaller metric socket, but it was too late the nut was completely round. I attacked the nut with hammer and chisel. I will tell you one thing, this stuff is not your basic alloy material. I think it has a lot of mixed alloys. I was able to cut away some of the nut, but could not get it to turn. As a final attempt at 1:00AM, I lit the torch. In most cases this is the beginning of disaster, but my approach was to cut away the steel stud without hurting the wheel. Finally at 2:00 AM I was able to cut away the center of the stud and collapse the nut around it. Total time 5 .5 hours. Lucky for me I have a lift and torch set-up. Bad luck continues: today I went to 4 Porsche dealers but none stock the stud so the car is still beached until I get one. Can't understand how this happened. Believe me I am careful. I am ASE certified, I never use impact guns on wheel studs, and the rest of my wheel nuts are fine. How did this one get so F**KED UP?
