Does the sun roof motor try to run in both directions? if not, it could be a bad connection at the switch, you should be able to flip the leads going to the motor. this will let the good side of the switch move the motor in the opposite direction. If the motor does move in both directions when you push on the switch, you are in for a long weekend. report back what you find, and we can move on to step two.

V-tach,
The spongy piece connects the sunroof motor with the sunroof transmision. remove the bolts that hold the sunroof motor in place and take the motor partway out. it just sits in the spongy piece. now, do you get ANY movement or sound in the motor when you push the open/close directions on the sunroof switch, If you can see or hear even a little movement both ways the switch seems to be ok. if not the switch will need to be replaced. I hope you can follow my thoughts. report back with your findings.

no - i did'nt hear any noise in the motor when hitting the sunroof switch close only the open. then i played around with the switch and boom got it to work. it must of been that my switch was stuck. wonder what i could do to free them up a bit. i think they maybe hitting the sides of center console. oh yeah , i also discovered that even with the ignition off - the switches are still operable. that explains why my battery drained the other day- the switch prob got stuck in an on position and killed my battery. is this normal for the swithches to operate without the key turned ???
thanks

Pull the two screws that hold the transmission on, and pull the transmission off, then the sunroof can be slid by hand. I did that last week. In fact, once mine was closed, I reinstalled the transmission, and the problem was solved. Didn't have to touch the motor.

My switches only work when the key is in and turned to the 1st position. Hmmmm......
Is it all of your switches or just the one that is flakey?

The swithes also work on my '85 when the key is out. However only untill the door is opened. As soon as the door opens, all swithes become inactive. When the key is put back into the ignition swith and turned to the on possition the swithes becoem active again.

I hope this helps.
