Please help,
I have a 1984 Porsche 928s. Was unable to get the rear hatch release to release the hatch. Pulled up on **** and motor ran only. Adjusted the 2 screws up and down, no help. Found after removing the unit that the black plastic center piece was broken and the wire was just laying there. Is there a repair that can be done to it to reconnect the wire? Appears to be a ground wire. Is it really necessary? Expensive part at $100.00.
Thanks,
Ron

I think you are looking at the pin and wire which grounds when you open the hatch and turns on the interior lights. This has nothing to do with the hatch release.

Jim,
I'd like for it to work too. Do I need to buy the entire receiver or can I just replace the plastic stud? I can't understand how a plastic stud can give a ground and turn the interior light on and off. I've had problems with the interior overhead lights horn draining my battery. Bought new ones. I'm just trying to fix all of the little stuff. Hood compartment light next.
Thanks,
Ron

the pin switch which screws into the bottom of the receiver is the same switch used as a door pin switch when depressed there is no ground when extended the wire attached grounds on the body of the car . In the hatch recieiver when the white plastic pushes up on the upper post the switch moves up and the wire grounds.

The wire is only related to the light. You can unhook it and it will have no effect on the opening/closing function. It will only prevent your opening of the hatch from activating the dome light.
Do a search on my ID and you'll find what I did to get the remote hatch to work. Caution: if you have broken bits in there, my workaround will avail you nothing.
The mechanism works thusly: when you ehgage the motor, there is a flap that moves up and pushes the catch that is part of the upper hatch. It is pushed back, so that it is no longer engaging the reciever. the large white nylon piston, which is spring loaded, then pushes the whole assembly up.
Good luck.

Jim and Thaddeus,
I'm beginning to understand. Since my wire is broken loose, the lights won't work. I'm going to attempt to rig up a new piece of plastic center. Is that the plastic piece that 928 Intl. sells for the Rear Hatch? Will attempt the shim of the flappy thing that does the releasing. Bought all new overhead lights from 928intl. today.
Thanks,
Ron

Jim and Thaddeus,
Thank You both. Came up with repair that works... using ideas from both of you....
Had my receiver apart last night. Take the lower receiver loose with the two allen screws. Raise it up slightly. Take 4 of those plastic plugs that parents use to plug outlets in your house for childproofing. Cut the prongs off flush. Cut them in half. Use them as shims at the rear section. Adjust the two bolts holding the receiver and adjust exactly in the middle. May need to adjust up or down. Check that the wire is hooked up to the stupid assed plastic rivet that drives though the lower spring. Mine was broken and I had to reconnect it. It will jack up the receiver fwd. and allow the lights to turn on and off and will allow the rear hatch release to work. Also, was able to work the alarm from the rear. Kind of a backyard way of fixing it, but, beats buying new parts. You need to be able to raise the lower receiver to allow for a good latch.
Good Luck!,
Ron
