Expect to lose some points in concours unless you can back up your claims.

hi,

I'm not totally convinced, since the 5-speed euro non-S cars from '80 - '83 obviously were simpler equipped. The read one pictured in my original post is a 1981 stick non-s euro, exactly like mine, and it has the same style seats as I do. I've also seen a third car like that with the same seats. They are 911 seats from the same period.

Option M418 are protective side moldings, my car has them factory installed from what I can see, only they should be red. My rear window trim was/is black, only now partially worn, so it looks almost chrome in some places.

I sure would like to keep/get my car in original condition.

Is there a non-electric version og the round-button 928 seats? Or what seats would you get if you didn't specify power seats? (the period 911 ones?)

Obviously this is a tough issue for me...

Yes, there were/are non-electric 928 seats with the round button. I installed a pair in my '83 S Euro. They offer a significant advantage for tall drivers.

'82 was last year for 4.5L.

Their blackness is problem for Nicole and me. Not that they exist on your car. Like you say, they should be body color.

There was non power round button 928 seat and it's more common than electric version. I'd say round button non electric with pasha up to '81, from '82 to '84 same seat but other fabric as standard and pasha as option.

Obviously this is a tough issue for me...
Round button 928 seat, electric or not, is way to go. They were available with pasha and at least one or two other cloths also.

They were also available in leather, which is what I have.

My personal preference would be to find some of the sport seats like in my earlier photo. I think they are the most comfortable and supportive seats for the 928. Just MHO.

Here's pictures from one local sales site.

Black side mouldings and odd looking seats what little they appear in picture. In my mind large rear wing alone makes whole cars originality suspect. Seller isn't most trustworthy either judging by the text. Sure it has 4.5 with 312 hp.

True and with more than one variation I think. Choice of smooth or holed leather in center areas.

Here's standard non electric smooth leather round buttons:

These have little smallish side bolsters but in my opinion are sport seats anyway:

Not sure if they are original or not.

Those two are orignal seat choices for the pre'85 models.

I believe they are original. They appear to be the same model as I posted earlier. Mine were in a 1982 US 928 with something called a "competition option" which sounds really racy, but was actually just front and rear "S" spoilers, those non-electric sport seats and flat disc wheels instead of the phone dials.

I just decided to check my factory brochures one more time, just to be on the safe side. And to my big surprise I find a picure in the '81 German brochure - and only in that year - that shows a basic 928 with grey berber cloth seats in that 911 style.

So, I have to admit I was wrong, and there might have been other '81 models with these style seats. I'm just surprised that I've never seen a 928 before that had them...

The price list offers sports seats with Berber cloth and vinyl at DM 480, while the sports seats with leather interior are DM 2290.

I'm stunned! Will have to check each and every '81 model I see from now on. I once test drove an '81 Euro, and it had pinstripe cloth with the round button...

Euro models are bit different and there might still be some surprises hiding. Especially early eighties is somewhat gray area. We definitelly need interior site like Landsharkoz colors. Need to study more.

well that explains what I've found! I have previously used the term 80-83, but actually all the cars I've seen with this (including my own) were 81's!

Also the car that Erkka shows in his posting is an 81. It also has 911 style seats, one can tell by the distinctive way the center section widens towards the front end of the seat. (like the pictures in my original posting). In 944 and ordinary 928 seats the centre section has parallell edges. (hard to put in words, but by looking at the pictures you'll get it....)

While browsing the net I also found yet another car with these seats.

Nicole: I apprechiate your research! Is there any way you can share the pictures of this 81?

mm

Nicole: what does the 81 german brocheure say about the side moldings? Are they listed as an option, or shown in any pictures? I'm starting to wonder If they came black when ordered as an opotion... (well, I'm getting new ones, and painted anyway...)
