Original owners?
Just curious as to any members or "users" who are still original owners of a 928. It would be interesting to hear about the buying process of a new 928 back in the day. It seems many of us are 2nd, 3rd or 4th owners of these amazing cars and were not fortunate enough to be able to buy one new for one reason or another.

One of our customers really nice guy , in 1982 was driving his old business delivery truck down Pacific coast Hwy. It broke down in front of the Porsche dealer waiting on a tow truck he wandered into the show room and started looking at a new 928. Young "salesman" who had watched him get out of his now dead truck approached him and said something like "You probably do not want to look at that one it is more than you could afford". Customer still has that 928. : ) Most USA 928s were NOT ordered by the customer but were speculation cars sold by Porsche to the dealers who then had to try to sell them . The dealers were not interested in stocking unique , unusual colors. Even if the customer wanted to order a car made especially the way they wanted the dealers would do almost anything to sell them the 928 they had on the showroom floor. And yes dealers were coerced into taking 928s ...... you want 5 more 911s ? then you must also take a 928 . That is SOP for auto makers if you want more of what is hot you must also take what is not .

I was talking to my father in law (the original owner of my 928). He had stopped by the porsche dealership after reading a review on them. He said when he first sat down it felt like he was in a jet. He and his wife took it down the road for a little drive, when he got back, he said "I'll take it". Still this day he says its the best all around car he has ever drove. That was back in 1981, and he gave $30k for it. He also bought one in 1985.
