Question Spark Plug Wires Rebuild???

I need to put new wires on my 83 (Battle) Used the ones off of (Brandy 83) and the car runs perfect now. If I buy a new set , I will have 16 Spark plug connectors, Has any one just bought the Wires and used their old connectors ? and which of the Big three are best for getting them from ?

Also is there any way to check the connectors to make sure they are good ???

Thanks,

Richard

I checked my wires last weekend. They all ohm'd at around 3 except for #1, so that leads me to believe the connector may be shot. So related question. What are stock wires supposed to Ohm at?

The resistance should be in the connector and they seldom have problems . The wire we carry has a threaded stud crimped on the end of the wires and simply screws into the top of the plug connectors . The distributor and coil wire ends are already attached so only the plug connectors are used again .

From foggy memory, the spark plug wire set on the 16v cars have ~3K ohms per lead, although they may read higher due to any oxide film build up.
The interresting aspect of the 928 ignition design is that it requires ~equal resistance per lead : to achieve this, 99% of the resistance per lead is designed in the plug connector - the wire lead and cap connector are < 5 ohms, achieved by using tinned copper (or steel) straight wire . ( other designs use radio 'resistor' carbon filament wire, where ohms varies as the length.)
The good news from this is that if the connectors are good, then the wires can be rebuilt/replaced if you find a source of 'real' wire**, and are prepared to make a project of recovering all the threaded links/connectors.
** do not use any wire with more than 1-2 ohms per foot - suppression wires, even if 'spiral, etc, can be >1000 ohms/ft.
