Default Noise when turning

When turning at low speed, or if starting in a turn, I hear a noise from the front of the car. It is a weak "tak-tak-tak" sound that goes away as soon as the car gets back to a straight line. I imagine it to be more prominent when starting in a right turn (on a parking lot lets say). I can not hear it when turning at speed >20-30 mph. It reminds me about the steering noise I had on my old '80 S, but on this 65k miles 5-sp S4 there is a receipt of a new factory "steering gear" part ($2k) exactly 3 years and 10k mi ago. Is there anything else that could be causing this noise, or is this caused by a worn steering rack? (Clutchplate, release & pilot bearing, sleeve cylinder are all new, so it is likely not a clutch-related sound at start-up). Thanks for advice!
EDIT: Upon start-up in a turn, noise appears immediately after turning the steering wheel from a straight line - so not only at full lock.

Check that your tyre is not rubbing/catching against the brake duct on the front spoiler. Get someone to turn the steering wheel while you check for any contact lock to lock.
That was the cause of a knocking noise I had at low speed.
Best,
Roger

Two (additional) things I have seen exhibit this behavior,

1) A stone in the tire tread, (usually a click, click, click sound)

2) A loose lugnut (definately a klack, klack, klack sound, caused by wheel flex)
