Default Is Idle Stabilized Serviceable?

With Intake Manifold removed, Floppy Valve replacement make sense (only $20 parts). However, new Idle Stabilized is over $200. What is the best way to service the Stabilizer, both the valve and the actuator? Is valve normally open or should it be energized to open for the purpose of cleaning? Is there an access to the motor to clean the brushes?

i used to clean the ISVs on my VW's, but once they get stuck the first time, even a good cleaning would only last about 6 months. but they were easy to get to so it wasn't a big deal.

it'll never be as clean as new, just replace it...

Voytek,
I think I read on the forum that the mechanical part of the valve can be cleaned the best with a ultrasound cleaner. If the electric motor is worn out the complete valve has to be replaced.

I think you can buy one for about $150. If you shop. So would it be worth $150 to have to take the intake off again, or do it now?

Just clean it & remount it externally to the manifold. Done.

Clean thouroughly. If you have a 12VDC source, you can cycle the valve in the cleaning process thereby helping in the cleaning action.

Thank You all for great inputs. You were close okbarnett, I have found this source http://www.carpartsteam.com/PO_928_F...Valve_019.html having the best price for what I belive is BOCSH's Idle Control Valve (even though site states that it is Porsche part): $164 with free shipping. Jager recommends to replace it after 10 years or 100K miles so in my case , after 17 years it probably is time.

My hopeless idle was 90% sorted by replacing the MAF. This also made the car quicker, smoother, and more responsive. It is worth swapping yours for a known good unit to help diagnose your problem. John Speake (a Rennlister) of JDSPorsche.com has an excellent reputation for checking and rebuilding MAFs.

Notice they list both valves as correct for the 85-95 928...

The cheap one is for the 85-86, of course.

I have talked to the people from the site I have posted earlier. They told me that site will be discontinued in a couple of months. The current site is http://www2.autopartsauthority.com/p...lve&category=C and valve is $192. However, as long the “BUY” button works on the old site, one should be able to get the valve for $166. I have ordered one and I will let you know weather it have worked.

I got very fast service from http://www.carpartsteam.com/PO_928_F...Valve_019.html. Idle Stabillizer arrived today: total cost $166 (no tax (sold in NJ) and free shipping). Bosch P/N 0 280 140 515 (Porsche P/N 928 606 161 01). For some reason all parts suppliers list non-Bosch P/N C4030-12942, so I have verified above data on the Bosch site parts catalog. This price will not last for much longer so this would be time to get it.
