Well try to follow along, kinda hard to explain,
If I hit the brakes with the left turn signal on the front starts flashing fast, and the rear light flash's fast also, but the tail light on the same side will flash as well, they will alternate between turn signal and tail, just on the rear, kinda like cop car headlights. Both reverse lamps will light up also while all of this is happening.Looks kinda pretty, but I need to fix it. I changed all the bulbs and it still does it, where are the grounds for the lamp ***.
Thanks
I just worked through a problem with the back right turn signal so I can at least tell you about the ground. It is ground point 2 and it is back in the rear passengers side corner behind the rear trim panel. I was able to get to mine by removing the back three screws of the panel and gently prying it back to expose the ground. Removing the entire panel requires pulling the rear seat and is an ugly process!
Now that you know about the ground, I don't think that's your problem. It could be that your lamp control unit has gone off a cliff. If I am reading the current flow diagrams right, when you hit the brakes it energizes the LCU. Unfortunately, the LCU has nothing to do with your reverse lights!
Does everything else work correctly?
Hazard lights?
Reverse lights?
Brake lights?
Side markers?
There is a 7 pin connector that is by the ground that you may want to look at. All the rear lights terminate through that. Maybe you have a short in that area.
Marc, thanks for posting, the hazards will make the tail lamp do the same wig-wag thing, but the reverse, stop and all the running lights work good. I will check the ground and the 7-pin connector today. Your car looks just like mine, but I have 16 inch phone dials, is the color kinda like a gold metallic?
It is gold metallic. According to Porsche, it is Casablanca Beige Metallic, though there is nothing like that listed on the 928 specialists paint table.
Now that I look at it, it doesn't surprise me that the hazards cause the same effect, they use the same circuites as the turn signals and really just simulate (well sort of) the turn signals being on.
