Default Can the S4 alarm be bypassed.

I'm trying to diagnose a no start condition, and I'd like to take the alarm system out of the equation. Anyone know if removing the EZK relay and placing a jumper between pins 87 and 30 would do the trick. As far as I can tell from the wiring diagram, the alarm is only connected to the door/trunk locks, hood sensor, horn, lights, and relay 16 (EZK relay).

Thanks,
Gary

Gary:

The alarm system on my '82 was driving me nuts. It finally left me stranded in SF once too often. I found this in the WSM (p90-47):

"Note

A defect in the control unit could cause failure of the ignition or fuel pump under certain circumstances, even when the alarm system is not activated.

If a new control unit were not immediately available in this case, the following measure will provide help.

Pull off plug Z on central electric board and bridge terminals 1 and 6 on central electric plug.

This will stop function of the alarm system."

I made up a jumper wire and bridged terminals 1 and 6 about 10 years ago and haven't had any "no start" problems since.

Not sure if the system is the same on the S4.

I had problems with the factory alarm causing a no start condition. I can't give you specifics on disconnecting it, but on my '87, I had the factory alarm disconnected and haven't had any problems in the year since.

I ended up not bypassing the alarm because I found my no start problem. However, for future reference, there is a connector shown in the wiring diagram with a note about cars not equiped with the alarm. It may even be the same connector mentioned in the WSM for bypassing the alarm in the earlier cars (the pinout is different at least). It looks like you can also temporarily short out the kill function of the alarm by putting a jumper between pins 30 & 87 in the EZF relay location (XVI).
