Default 6-speed 928 or just dif H pattern?

Hello
I'm doing some research for a future purchase of a 928. I remeber seeing a car that had a very differnt H pattern 1st gear down 2nd gear up and so on.
Was this a 6-speed or was it just a specail pattern on a special car? Or is this how all the 928 GTS's were?
If you know please let me know what model/year this was.
Thank's in advance.

Eric

All manual transmission 928s were 5 speeds. The pattern has six positions with reverse up and left.

I'm refering to a 928 that the shift pattern was differnt from the traditional 1st gear being at the top left of the H-pattern. This car 1st gear was at the bottom left of the H pattern with 2nd gear at the top of the pattern, 3rd at the bottom and fourth at the top and 5th at the bottom.

that is the shift pattern on the 928 Eric... takes a few days to get used to, I actually think it's better but beware letting someone else drive it without warning them first... I can just see a valet throwin it into "1st" and slamming into the car behind you

Drove mine around all weekend, my 1st gear is at the bottom left.
2nd gear is up to the right.

I'm sure you’re all right. It has been many years. Is it possible that there a model that had a normal H pattern. I remember something unique about a particular model.
Thanks for everyone’s feedback.

Porsche felt that 1 st gear was something used very little and prefered to use the H for the real useful gears 2-5 . Not being into drag racing a fast 1-2 shift meant little to Porsche . All early 911 , 914 used the same pattern with 1 st gear below reverse and not on the H . I do not believe that there was any other pattern for the 5 speed or that they ever made a 6 speed for the 928 .

When Sonnen Porsche had a white-tent fuss over the Cayenne's arrival, it had valet parking. At least half the cars there were Porsches, mostly Boxsters and 911s. The valet started my car in 2nd because he didn't know where the gears were and he didn't think it would require actual effort to push the level all the way over (my neutral sits a little right of centre). To add insult to injury, they called out "red 944" when my burgandy 928 was brought back out to me!

The picture of the 6spd was probably a from a car in Mexico. 6 fwd gears and 1 reverse. Kibort may have some info on it.

Quick Reply: 6-speed 928 or just dif H pattern?
