Hi all,

I'm looking to have my Cats replaced for it has been about 15 years since I have done it.

I had replaced them when I bought an X-Pipe from Dave at SLC and his Cats at the time.
I have removed the air pump for this install.

Looks like a lot are using Magana Flow and was wondering what everyone thought of them or a different brand?
I think the one I'm looking for would be a Federal spec for where I live.

Thanks

Big reason is I'm smelling some NO gases.

I have all new ignition electrical parts, new injectors from Rodger, new FPR from Rodger and new regulators from GB, new fuel pump and filter.
Also I have S3 chipset. I also put in a new factory O2 sensor a year ago.
MAF, LH and EZK were tested by Rich about 5 years ago.
New exhaust gaskets from headers to X-pipe.

If there is something else that I need to look at some guidance would be good.

I think the question was why the cats are suspect for what you’re sensing. Ask the forum where you could get your exhaust analyzed for proper air-fuel ratio, and exhaust gas state qualification.

Have you reset the MAF?
your year is required to reset the MAF to set the mixture.
NOTE the cats are telling you the mixture is off

Stan I will look into that.

I don't have to do a state inspection where I live. I will see if there is location that will do around me.

Thanks all

Another option is re-core your stock units to keep the "stock" look.

Hacker
Did not this. I will look into this also. Might be a good option.
Will try the adjustment first.

your nose will tell you what the fuel system is doing,
If everything else is working as it should then,
if it smells rich then the mixture needs to be adjusted.

OR you could also have a fuel damper or FPR failing,
this will suck fuel into the intake,
pull the vacuum line off the front damper and smell for fuel,
if you smell fuel then one of these parts is leaking and its best to replace all three of them.

I don’t know such a thing as “core replacements” existed. Mine has completely hollowed out cats. Are there known direct-replacement cores for our cats, ~’86 MY?

Who would you recommend to do the re-coring and which version of the listed products would fit well inside the stock housing?

still a good question. My cats are cored-out and completely empty. A known fit for some of these would be great to know.
