Other Coolant Drain Plugs
I have been putting this off, but where exactly are the two other coolant plugs? The WSM says on the "left and right-hand
sides of crankcase." The picture in there doesn't help me. Can anyone offer a clue?

It's farther back then you think. Locate the clutch slave and move a little back from there while looking at the crankcase. It's not too far from there. They are kinda up on the each side a little.
Coolant, plus block, plus bolt sometimes = broken bolt, so spray down the bolts with some lube and let it soak in for a while

Underneath. A roller that you can lay down on works best. Just slide back from the front of the car, past the clutch slave and look on both sides of the crakcase. Once you see them, you know.

When you get to them and remove, you might want to have two new sealing washers available for re-intall. Most of the time the bolts can be reused, but the washers tend to be in worse shape.

... and use a big catch pan. The coolant doesn't come out in a nice stream like the oil does. More like a "let's see how much coolant we can spray around the floor, engine compartment, and mechanic" blast.

..... exactly what everyone has said, plus double on the penetrating fluid. Also, no mickey mouse wrenches - this is one of the worse places to snap one off. If you can, use a 1/2" drive bar with a 13mm 6-pt socket: this will give you a rock solid control over what you are doing. BTW, these bolts are known to "crack" very loudly when they release: knowing this can save on the laundry bills ...

I had a bit this weekend.....not all that bad, as long as you drink it in very small doses......
Oh yeah, don't get it in your eyes, turns out they don't like it any more than your kidneys do......
BTW this weekend I tried some of the NAPA brand of "water wetter" they call it "NAPA EngineKool".... we will see how it works.......

Ed,
you hit the nail on the head! What a friggin mess!
Just get ready for the gates of hell to open up on you.
Use new crush washers and in my case, I had to use teflon tape on the threads to get them to stop weaping. Good luck!

I'll say that despite being a Kansan, I've never experienced the fluid release from under the cow.
