Help! Help! She does not START
Hello!
I just bought Porsche 928 1979, 5 speed. So I tried to start it and it just does not. I turned the key and she cranked but didn't even catch. So I checked the spark plugs. They were all bad, so I replaced them with Bosh Platinum ones. I checked the spark and there it was, but it still didn't start. I checked if the fuel comes to injector-yes it does. But she still doesn't start! Now I am thinking maybe it is cold-start valve or second temperature gauge. Does anyone have any idea what can it be? And one more question: does the 1979 Porsche 928 have ECU unit in it?(I checked on the 928 International-they have it only since 1980).
Thanks a lot,
Klim

Thanks a lot . It really helps that she does not have ECU(I was worried!). She never started so that I saw it. First two seconds I started to crank her, it looked like she catched but did not . The guy who sold it said that sometimes it starts and works like new and sometimes it just cranks and nothing else. He said he started it and he drove it on the truck(which shipped her from Florida to me).

How do you know you have gas at the injectors? How did you test this? You may have gas at the connector on the injector, but not enough pressure to open it. Is there a gas smell at the exhaust pipe while/after cranking? Have you moved the gas pedal while cranking? I know it says not to, but sometimes thats the only way to get them to fire....remove the aircleaner cover and the filter , reach down the hole in the cleaner base forwards, find the round plate; while somebody cranks it, push the plate down a little - it should move smoothly, take little pressure to move, and if you have enough gas pressure, it may catch. You need to put a fuel pressure gauge on it to see what you have. Get Ben Watson book from Amazon on Bosch injection. If the car has stood for a while, you will need to replace fuel filter, maybe the pump(s), and run Techron through it a few times to clean out the lines.

That interior alone is worth what u paid!!! Except - never seen the dash pulling up like that over the AC vents...
With the VERY LOW mileage - there are probably LOTS of dry-rotted rubber hoses (VACUUM, fuel, etc). Also - being a So. FL car - UNLESS it was stored in a controlled environment - there is likely electrical corosion. The grounds are VERY VERY sensitive. There is a post of a yearly Maintenance 'to-do' that I would search for. There is detail on cleaning all the ground points (A LOT OF GP's!)
Once you have everything up and running, you will have a FINE example of on OB!

Nice looking car! I don't think it is a '79 CIS, however. Where is the control pressure regulator? Where is the bolt that goes through the plenum to hold the bottom of the air box? Looks like a '80+ AFC system. This will change your troubleshooting strategy. Note the fuel pressure damper under the cross brace. See if there is a ecu mounted on the right side of the passenger footwell. What is the VIN?

Mulik - you need to look and find the "M" numbers on this engine...looking at the engine from the front, it is stamped just above and to the left of the top of the waterpump (at least it is on later cars). based on your car - it should be "M28/03"

Just got the battery charged and ignition lock together it started raining. The VIN number is 9289200664. Thanks for your advices.(I already found bad wires and cracked belts today). The guy which sold it said that it starts better when it is warm. I will find out engine number later(it's 10:39PM already).
