Question Alternator Installation?

Hi-

A few weeks ago I took my alternator off of the '82 5 spd. to get it rebuilt.

Now that it is back from the shop I can’t remember where one of the wires goes.

I know where the thick red cable connects, but can’t find out where the small thin one with the ring connector goes.

I have searched the archives, the net, and looked in the workshop manual and can’t find the answer.

If someone could tell me where it goes or possible post a picture, I would greatly appreciate it.

Best Regards,

Carson.

If the alt is a Paris-Rhone, like the one sitting on the floor beside my '80, there are 3 connection points. Sit the alt in its mounted position; this puts the B+ (13mm nut) at the bottom, or 6 o'clock when looking at the rear . This is for the large power cable. The other two posts are at 4 and 5 o'clock, with 8mm and 10 mm nuts respectively. The wire you want to connect to is at 4 o'clock - 8mm nut - ties to the voltage regulator.
If you still need a pic, I can get one in the AM.

Garth-

Thnak you very much for your help.

You are correct, it is a Paris-Rhone.

Thanks to you clear description I will not need the picture.

Garth-

I just put the alternator back in and have the large power cable connencted at the 6 o'clock position.

I can't figure out the position of the ring connector cable - the only free posts are at 10 and 2 o'clock on my alternator.

Any suggestions?

Can anyone tell me where the little wire to the alternator connects and possibly post a pic?

Regards,

Carson

This is a shot of the connections from an '80.
The power lead goes to the 13mm nut/post @ 6 o'clock. The second wire connects to the voltage regulator post (at 4 o'clock in the pic) with the 8mm nut - red connector. [ that is an aftermarket regulator, if things look differently].
Hope that helps.
