Update: 89 Gt running on all 8
First off , thanks to everyone with troubleshooting advice. It made the process make sense. The problem: The ezk relay plug had backed off the connector halfway, and was not making good contact. I had the connector off about a month ago, and the car had run fine for about 200 miles before tripping the protection circuit. After tucking the wiring back in after chip replacement (back to factory), I must have loosened the plug.
Good experience getting to know more of the systems on the car, and the board is invaluable. At least the problem was simple, but quite a few hours went into cleaning contacts, switching parts, and general hair pulling.
Thanks again,
Jim R.

Don't you hate it when it's something simple?
I'd much rather pull an engine than mess w/ niggling little dumb stuff.
Now go get a dyno run and see what that GT will do.
