Jeff, If the oil is warm - and you are careful, you can suck the oil up into the tube far enough ( say 2 ft past the top of the dipstick): then, quickly stick the end of the tube into your favourite pickle jar, which is sitting somewhere lower than the oil pan. Voila - a siphon!
Alternately, fill the tube with oil and jam a golf tee into the end: insert the open end into the dipstick/oil pan and remove the golf tee at the mouth of the pickle jar.
Both methods will work: I prefer the former, as it gives you an excuse to have a mouth wash on standby. Grolsch is prefered, but on a hot day, Kulmbacher is acceptable. Domestic brands should be left until you work on a Chevy - Moosehead, Schooner, etc.

He he....good stuff Garth!!
Well, it's done! Went to Canadian Tire (Pep Boys/Autozone for you Americans) and bought a Suction Gun (for draining/filling differencials, etc....and only $14.99 on sale today!).
The hose with the gun was like a 1/2 inch - no go fitting that down the dipstick tube. So, I get a few sample hoses and figure the 1/4 size one will work (hey, it fit in the parking lot). I attach this hose to the existing one that came with the gun - tucked in perfectly...not even the need for tape. Looks good. I feed said tube down the dipstick tube and it stops. I know it's not all the way down because when you pull it out, no oil on the tip of it. I try everything to get it down further....not happening.
So, I figure I need a smaller tube, but was too lazy to go back to the store. Idea flash!!!! Skipping rope!! Worked like a charm, it fit inside the tube that was fitted inside the other tube....but now with all these fittings, would it still suck up oil???
You bet cha! Pulled about 3/4 of a litre out in about 5 or six syphons. Barely made a mess at all....and for a total cost of $19.
Thanks all for the suggestions and such...and Garth, I found a Mothers Clay Bar when I was there too - they were just putting it out on the shelf. "just got this in..." the guys says.....and I bought one!! Weeeeeeeeeeee!!

I am interested to know if the vacuum created by having the oil separator lid on tight, along with the drain plug fully seated, removing the oil filter would allow the removal of the excessive oil, since it holds about 1 quart.
