I would think that if they were even slightly worn he would have mentioned it because it's a nice little chunck of change in labor cost alone to repair. My mechanic, of which for obvious reasons will remain nameless, is considered by those in the 928 community to be one of the best (nationally recognized, magazine covers etc.). If this is the case, I may be looking for another mechanic.

He has replaced many motor mounts in these cars for me over the years, but said these particular ones were fine. I can't help but think it's gotta be something else.

What about this injector thing? Is it possible for a glogged injector to produce similiar syptoms, while cold?

I really do appreciate your responses to this and I have notified the buyer to view this post. He probably is. I would assume that he is eventually going to have the car checked out by a mechanic, but for now maybe just a little peice of mind.

Thank you.
Low miler,
If you already had a good mechanic 'in the know' previously check out the mounts, then that's far better information that having someone diagnosing via a keyboard. I'd choose the mechanic's call, for what's better than seeing the car? ( and knowing what you are seeing!)
Motor mount failure seems to frequently be progressive - unless like the 944 mounts, that can develop a rupture - and leave the proverbial wet spot. The mounts in my '88 are not dead, but getting close - and confirmed by measure of collapse. BTW, they 'look' great: the test is to measure collapse, which your mechanic will confirm and I assume was done on the GT.
Upon cold start up with my S4, there is a growing vibration through the chassis that is noticable upon leaving the driveway at lower RPMs. Within a very short time, it becomes very smooth - as soon as the temp gauge starts to move: The engine remains smooth upon subsquent warm startups. So I conclude, there is enough fluid left in the mounts to allow some function - as soon as they 'soften up'. ( The sorbothane mat sold by Jager as a motor mount fix, or stopgap in lieu of mount replacement also is reported to not become functional until there is sufficient engine heat).

I must add that this car had only 3000 miles on it two years ago. Does this help at all?

The purchaser is having the car checked out this afternoon. I just hope they give him an honest answer and don't just replace what he's convinced it is.
