Default dash damage at windshield fix?

My dash has started to develop some shrinkage at the front end under the windshield and it has been bugging me for a while. I was getting out some rubber door edge guard for another vehicle when I thought maybe this could fill the gap and hide the damage. To my surprise it fits in very well. My two concerns are whether it will stick to either surface or put stress on the windshield? It required some force with a 3" wide tool to get the rubber under the center half of the windshield.

there is usually a long piece of felt put the front edge of the dash,
so it will be the contact point .

after time the felt can be heard squeaking as the dash and the glass move
