What was the significance of the Weissach Edition?
I've been thinking of cars I'd love to own, and since they're all Porsches I thought of one of the rarest attainable.
So what was the big deal about the Weissach edition? What year was it out? What was it marking in Porsche history? What was the tangible difference? Where can I get one? What's it gonna take to drive it home?

from 928registry website
Special 928 Weissach edition was available and featured champagne gold metallic paint, matching brushed gold alloy wheels, two-tone interior and the extremely collectible three-piece Porsche luggage set. Only 205 such cars were produced
and they also had a little number badge on the dash

oh yeah, if I'm not mistaken 82 is the 10th anniversary of when Weissach began developing the rear transaxle for a concept that would become Projekt 928

Perhaps, but as the 911 also had a 1982 Weissach edition that was probably just a coincidence. When sales are lagging, Porsche comes up with special editions with (mostly) cosmetic upgrades, and sales were pretty sad in the early 80s. Then the 944 came out and became the top-selling Porsche in company history. I think the Boxster holds that title now.

Tim,
You may have met Paul at the 928 Desert Shark tech session, he owns a Weissach edition 928.
He was at tonight's group dinner, you could have seen it once again. Food was great, we all enjoyed the time.

yes the food was fantastic.......reservations would have been nice
the weissach was like an 6000 dollar option included the 3 piece matched leather luggage.... special two tone leather interier....leather dash..with special plaque on it....leather headliner.....the paint is hellzbronze metallic...the flat wheels were also bronze colored.....ived heard the front brakes may be larger than normal....mine stops real well.....ive seen them in pic form in both manual and 3spd auto(mines an auto...i prefer the auto and it works great)...the 4.5 ltr had the l-jet fuel injection and as far as i know had no upgrades but mine does run really strong.....mine as all the avalable options....LSD....sun roof..etc..i think it even has the factory alarm.....the price new for this one of 205 (or 206 depending what your reading) was 47000 us 1982 dollars....thats a lot of money even by todays standards....im sure theres something i left out
all in all its a great car

1982 was the 10th anniversary of the opening of the Weissach research and development facility... Porsche released special Weissach editions of all models in 81-82... so far I've found Weissach 911, 924 (last year of US availability?), 944 and 928 (the least # of Weissachs produced of the bunch)
just gotta love doin research

Pattycakes, my Weissach, is in pretty fair shape, but if your thoughts were on investment you better have a cherry with less than 40.000 miles.
The leather interior can be found on other models, ... ummm spare parts.
The Weissach front and rear 'S' spoilers were, I believe, the first of the 928 model line to have them installed as STANDARD items, the bronze glass was also a nice touch that compliments the exterior and interior.
As Paul states above the 4.5L and three spd Auto are very strong.
The engine storms down the road when nudged, and the Auto... well I don't know about other 82's but Pattycakes will pull 85 mph -indicated- in 1st with no complaints with some to spare. If I use the 3spd judiciously
140mph -indicated- is arrived at smoothly and, I might add, quickly. Once again there is pedal and rpm to spare, possibly a gearing difference?
Suspension and braking are superb, all the usual accolades; stops on a dime, no pulling, great feel. hits the twisties like she's on rails, no body roll, leaps from one turn to the other...blah, blah, blah ...
Point of fact, Pattycakes accelerates MUCH, MUCH faster, handles quicker, noticeably better, and brakes better-not a whole lot- with a better feel than my son, Zack's, White 81' which is also a 4.5L, 3 spd Auto.
Zack's sHARK was very well maintained with mega thousands of parts, and maintenance reciepts. His engine compartment and suspension glitters with new parts -Pattycakes is envious-.
One thing that hasn't been mentioned is how the Hellbronze Metallic paint
preserves drivers licenses. If Pattycakes was painted red - my first choice -
the state of Texas would have shredded my drivers license and surgically removed my right foot some time ago.
As to the wheels -Platinum flats- both, the flats and the hellbronze body paint visibly morph thru a color range from a pewter to platinum then brushed gold color range depending on time of day, shade, and sun/cloud conditions. If I could figure out how to upload the flicks you could see for yourself.
As for myself, I plan on keeping Pattycakes till they bury my butt -in the
sovereign State of Pennsylvania, of course-.
Irregardless of her electrical glitches, she's a beautiful car, still turns heads and draws comments regularly.
Value ??? If I don't want to sell ...priceless.
There is one out in California going for around $7500.00 and it does need some interior work, though it has a new TB and runs well.
I think Mikey might sell his but you might need a bit of change to make him part with it.

Weissach Available
Hi Sharks,
The last time I checked, Brad Moyer - owner operator of the Digital Chassis had a beautiful Weissach available. He is a Porsche certified guru, 928 owner and enthusiast. He aligns the new Porsches after they come off the boat for the local dealership. He does racing and performance work. The local PCA, and others consider Brad to be one of the best in the business.
Well, someone dropped the Weissach off at his business while he was out. It had some transmission problems that Brad fixed. The owner ended up turning the car over to Brad instead of paying the repair bill or something like that. I think he refurbished the leather interior, too. Brad is incredibly proficient, and pays great attention to detail. If this car is still available, you will really know what you are getting, and it will be good.
No affiliation.
