Intake Trumpet - What is it

Hey all, 1982 coupe and the PO removed the 'intake' trumpet from my air box. What is it for. Should I look to get one?

If you want the air intake and metering to work as designed, then yes, you should get one.

smooths the air flow for the AFM... id add it back
