Default 1985 Porsche 928s Pod removal

Hi Folks,
I want to replace my cracked instrument pod/binnacle, can I leave the instrument cluster connected or do I have to unplug everything to remove the pod?
Appreciative of any answers - Thanks

Disconnect the battery,
Remove the steering wheel,
Remove the pod switches, and the ig switch collar
Remove the bolts that hold the pod on,
Lift the front of the pod and slide the turn signal switch off.
Carefully tilt the pod forward,
Disconnect the wires for the rheostats and the push buttons.
pull the pod housing free,
the gauges will stay in position.
Install in the reverse of removal.

Putting the Pod back in is the challenge. You will find lining up the allen head closest to the center console kind of a bear. Personally, I take the seat out and lay on my back and reinstall. It helps my sanity. YMMV.

I find it much easier to get the pod out together with the instrument cluster. I have not had any alignment issues getting it back in.
After a couple de/installations, it get's quite easy.
