Yes, It'll work. That 's how I put them in. Extemely tight around the steering column area, but doable. IIRC, I might have had to slightly raise one side of the engine to get the header past the steering. Good Luck.

Spent seven hours getting the right side off! (The easy side) most of the nuts came off without the stud, had to go back and double nut most of the studs to get them out of the way. I will go after the left side next week. Plan on dropping the steering rack, since I had it off last month for swap. Was able to get to the lower 19mm bell housing bolt.
I bet it is easier to just drop the engine and drive train to do all this!

Welcome to us happy mechanics. If it's not ****ing, it's abnormal.

I didn't say it was fun or would be fun, I just said it was doable.

Well got the left side nuts off today, only one came out with its stud! Not only that but two of them are much longer than the rest. Well since I still have to wait on my new “used” headers that are getting ceramic coated and studying my problem. I pulled the sway bar and power steering rack, read Dwayne’s right up on doing the engine mounts I am going to do that also. So with the cradle out I can put the headers in easy. Also will do the high pressure hose and then press on with my clutch change and TT rebuild!

Well decided to drop the cradle to change the motor mounts and get the left header out. So lifted the engine about 1 1/2 inch and thought I would try getting the header out. Well I got it out! Will still put in new MM and lower ball joints. I will not get the MSDS headers back from ceramic coat for a few weeks so plan on cleaning up around the engine. I might try to change from studs to bolts to for the headers or do you have to use studs? My first headers job.

Engine lifted and got the header out!
