Andy,

I was trying to find a mass conversion between diesel and air, but the only way to be sure is to test one for air flow.

If you look at the specs of the belt driven pumps (click on the pic below), the pump body size is much larger than the electric pumps, and they turn at 60-70% of engine speed. Their superbad pump pulls 35CFM at 3500 (pump) RPM!

If the electric could pull 5"+, then I'd rather have it, so as not to have the parasitic drag and street wear of the belt driven pump.

SharkSkin,

I've been using an exhaust pilot tube for 6 mos or so with no problems. It fixed my crankcase oil leaks during high speed runs.

Most of the drag race pumps are remanufactured smog pumps. (The Moroso looks like it's purpose built, though.) For the price below, I would rather buy one than try making my own. It has Teflon wipers and carbon fiber vanes.

"Sportsman” Vacuum Pump (5” deep by 5” diameter). Tests at 21” hg and 22 CFM at 3,500 pump rpm. Inlet and exhaust on back of pump. - $179.00
“Super-PRO” Vacuum Pump 3-Vane (6” deep by 5” diameter). Tested at 25” hg and 35 CFM at 3,500 pump rpm. Inlet and exhaust on side of pump. - $259.00

Note that the pulley is extra, but you can use a proper sized pulley from most any airpump from the junkyard.
...

Yeah... one of them pumps, with some sorta low speed oil misting system for the street and/or two different size pulleys, a big one for the street, and a little one for the strip.
