- Sunroof help?
<grumble> I always manage to mess sumthin up heh... was trying to get the headliner off and I know my sunroof isn't working atm... so I manually tried to open it to access the screws and what not... well, it got stuck at about an inch open... and manually trying to close it no longer works... After a bit of struggle, I was able to get the sunroof back to it's normal position... .. .. almost
It appears the the passenger side of the sunroof is a bit umm sunken I am thinking it's a sunroof guide thing but how do I remove the sunroof and what not to fix this or adjust the guide or at least see what the issue is?
I looked in the manual CD thing and looked around for information but hopefully some illustrated or detailed instructions so I don't screw things up even more would be helpful If I can't get this fixed tonight, I'm gonna have to place a service call and pay some bucks I don't wanna chance a rainy day this week even though it's sunny out now...
Any help would be greatly appreciated! I feel like the Tim Allen of 928 tinkering

Hey . . . You're in luck Jumpy, I can speak Canadian.
The first thing to do is to remove the access panel at the rear of the headliner, disconnect the power line, undo the bracket screws that hold the motor and clutch in place and remove them. Now you should be able to move the sun roof by hand without screwing up things.
Next thing is to slide the roof back about 3 to 4 inches so that you can access and undo the 3 sheet metal screws that secure the inner liner to the roof. Push the roof all the way back and remove the liner through the roof opening. Close the roof to provide access to the adjustment mechanism and diagnose. Let me know what you see or find. Go to the Nichlos site as Bill suggests and stay out of Squamish because my Loonie brother drives there.

When sliding that panel back and forth make sure to be careful not to scratch the top of the panel on the body of the car. Do it slowly and don't force movement.

In addition to the Nichols site, Keith did a sunroof r/r writeup with pictures on the SOCAL 928 board...you can do a google search for the site, then look under procedures. It's handy. The sunroof r/r is really not that difficult, especially once you get the headliner thing out.

GT, that makes sense, thanks Hmm, I think I was having some issues with disconnecting the power/switch/cord thing from the motor... maybe it's just on there really tight but for the life of me, I can't disconnect it... wonder if that's why the roof won't slide easily? The info about the sunroof liner and the sunroof itself is helpful... I always thought it was near the motor on the back of the car, not the front... then again, I can't get the roof open enough to see anything anyways
So I am guessing if it is a track/side guide issue, I can still move it around a bit if i have the motor disconnected? Any easy tips to disconnecting the power to that? I had the motor off earlier but since i couldn't disconnect it, it was like hanging in mid air

The motor and clutch are under/over a removable panel in the rear of the headliner by the hatch. You remove it by pulling down on the backside (again near the hatch) and disconnecting the spring arm from its retainer. If you pull it off from the front side you may break of the plastic clips.
The power line should detach without any difficulty and will separate cleanly. Once free of the motor the sunroof can be moved at will in order to clean, repair and adjust correctly.
Good Luck.
